I had a 4000 which Tim Jarman now has and he likes it a lot!

My suggestions would be either a switch problem or connections. If you have access to another record player I would try that but I do realise that this could be tricky! I have the single cassette version which my father bought back in the early eightes.Back when i was in my mid teens I impressed my friends with its recording quality.

I've tried playing the tape function as you suggested and it seemed to work on both speakers for tape but when I tried to switch to phono the reduction in sound comes back.

ian

Re: Assitance with service for BEO center 4000

Couple of questions:

1. Which 4000? There are two - a lovely 1970s one with single cassette deck based around a simplified version of the old Beocord 5000 and a Beomaster 2200 - and the 80s very sleek but ultimately Japanese twin cassette affair. Quite an interesting machine and the only twin cassette sold by B&O but actually made in Japan.

2. Does the audio work OK playing cassettes and the radio?

Surprised you have a MMC10E as I thought these were a US model. Soundsmith sell new replacements. I doubt the cables have anything wrong with them. Maplins do sell new plugs and cable though, including right angle DIN plugs which the old 4000 benefits from.

Assitance with service for BEO center 4000

Hi,

I inherited a BEOCenter 4000 together with a BEOgram 1600 from my father when he passed away. After a few years of storage i decided to try and to play one of my recordson it, I've noticed that the audio is coming through but at a reduced volume the speakers are S40.

Can someone suggest if replacement cables or service is the way forward ? Where could I get replacement speaker cables/ replacement stylus MMC 10 E ?
