I already knew how to get the BM apart, the belt themselves are an endless loop, but the thing that holds them doesn't seem to come apart.

Actually, with a bit of careful fiddling, I got one belt off.

I've measured one up, seems to be 30mm wide and around 425mm long, the tooth pitch looks to be vvery unusual, it isn't the normal 50%high/low type turns out around 4mm but its not really a proper way to measure them - the smallest tooth pitch I've seen is around 5mm, which would be reasonably close.

I think the thickness of the belt is likely to be the major issue.

I have not tried looking for a supplier yet, Wyco stocks Fenner belts so they might be an option.

Well there are three screws under the lip of the BM, so turn it upside down and unscrew them (they screw into the aluminium part). Put it right side up again and it will open like a car bonnet, even has a stand to keep it open inside! Undo the white plastic holders where the rollers are then you will see four metal holders on each side of the BM. Undo the nuts. You have to then slide out the whole part of the exterior section where the belt would be. Put the new belt on and with a lot of manouvering slide the section back on. Replace the nuts. Then put the rollers into the white plastic holder and put them into the belt. Screw them back on.You will see the back of the white holders fit into the aluminuim part as a guide so that if keeps the belt straight. Do the same to the otherside of the belt. You must make sure that the belt is straight. Also if you have a belt cut, make sure that they cut it 100% otherwise it will jam. Hope this helps. If you get stuck let me know.

Here are some pics, hope I they come through! I wouldn't know what timing belt it is Andy. I just went to a belt specialist and he helped me out.

The chance of finding a timing belt of the right length is minimal, could you tell us which make and model of car it is for?

The volume and tuning belts on my Beomaster were broken. Naturally they aren't available from B&O. SO.......I decided I had to do something. I bought a Wide timing belt which is essentially what the original belts look like. I cut them to the right width (length was perfect) and voila! My Beomaster is working perfectly. Only difference is the gaps between the ridges are slightly bigger. It looks great and most importantly works perfectly. So anyone who has broken belts on their Beomaster 1700 now knows what to do!

P.s. You have to turn the timing belts inside out to use them on the Beomaster
