It appears the arm is 'sticking'. It resists being moved to the left, and will not return when it is moved left by hand. Moving it right has a little 'springiness' - it will return to straight ahead.

Reading the manual, I cannot figure out the lubrication points. Can someone share more 'step-by-step' directions.

Thanks again.

Re: 4004 turntable - skips

The idea is that the stylus moves the arm slightly and this makes the optical sensor move the arm sideways. It would appear that the arm is resisting being moved!! Maybe some lubrication? There are two lubrication points noted in the service manual. Sewing machine oil!

Re: 4004 turntable - skips

Thanks guys. I took the platter off, moved the arm in, and it traversed all the way over. Also, there is a lamp right below the arm, that moves when the arm is moved, and that is 'on'.

You can see the stylus deflecting to the left, before jumping back to the center of the cartridge. So it is the arm that is not moving.

I also tried increasing the tracking force, and also using 2 lps, in case the arm was not being lowered enough. No difference.

Any other ideas? Thanks, Samir.

Re: 4004 turntable - skips

Agree - the test I mention above tests the whole system - optical sensor etc. If it doesn't move, the arm motor is not being told to advance the arm.

Re: 4004 turntable - skips

Sounds like a problem with the tracking opto, most likely a burnt lamp in the sensor housing (below decks).

Martin

Re: 4004 turntable - skips

Is the arm advance working? Take the platter off, then start the deck and drop the arm - it won't ht anything! - now gently move the arm inwards so that it angles towards the sensor arm. If it traverses inwards slowly, the arm motor is OK.

4004 turntable - skips

Hi gang. Finally got my living room system setup, and hooked up the
4004 type 5526 TT. Using the controls, the arm moves around nicely -
up/down/left/right. It finds the beginning of the LP, and returns at
the end. However, it wont track an LP - plays 1 groove, then skips back
into it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this?
Is this an adjustment, lubricantion, or electronic problem. Or, can
someone email me a manual?

Thanks in advance.
Samir.
