Apologies for the delay, I went on holiday then it slipped my mind.

I have just dug out the unit. The belt is not only still present it appears to be intact, it had just been displaced from the pulleys, I am guessing it must be in pretty poor condition for that to have happened but you may be able to use it as a template.

It looks like it may be possible to detach the tape assembly by unplugging a connector not unlike those you get on PC power supplies. Rather than risk botching the belt extraction would you like me to send you the whole tape assembly? PM me you details if you would like me to.

The tape deck worked for the first couple of hours I had the unit, then never again. I didn't try to repair it because it soon transpired only on channel on the amp worked and a previous owner had wired it up so it went through both speakers! As the cartridge I retrieved and speakers were worth far more than 16 pounds I paid I didn't pursue it with the seller.

If I get a chance I will see if the remains of the belt are still in there. Likewise let me know if you would like me to raid it for any parts.

What is it with B&O decks and "melting" of belts? I had a 7007 unit that had defunct tape deck, thought it was belts only but was the motor as well unfortunately. But when I stripped the unit there were small fragments of belt about 1cm long, but the rest was literally a sticky mess all over the motor pulley, even to the point of having pools of belt on the chassis below the motor. Does this happen in other makers equipment?

Martin is very kindly trying to source the required belts for me, (I'm so glad that forums with great people still exist). I'm happy to fit the belts, sometimes you just don't want to let things go, and as it was given to us I really want to have a crack at getting going.

It's great being a dinosaur at times lol

I had an email from a guy who has the same type of unit with the same fault sadly and the belts have 'melted', if I can source a supply of belts or equivalents I may be able to fix up two of these beasts. He's 93 and had his unit from new so it would be nice to be able to sort it but he's been doing as you say, disconnected the deck and just used the radio and turntable.

Don't suppose your loft bound unit still has the belts in a measurable form does it?

I have a defunct Becentre 2000 in the loft.

There are some fundamental issues with it that make it one of the least popular B&O systems.

Firstly it was made in Japan, apart from the turnable components, so many B&O enthusiasts don't see it as a real B&O system. This also applies to the 2002 and 2200.

There are better B&O systems from that era that can be had for not much more money.

It isn't nearly as well laid out internally as many B&O systems and is a bit of a pig to work on.

There is an outside chance that Martin (Dillen) will have some belts but they won;t be easy to fit. You could get B&O dealer to do it for you but it may cost more than your system is worth.

I would advise doing one of 2 things.

The Beocentre 2000 is not a great B&O system but is better than many competing systems from the time. Simply use it and enjoy it without the cassette deck.

Alternatively if the cartridge on the turntable section is working well, remove it from the system and sell it on Ebay. Dispose of the remainder of the system. If the cartridge is in good condtion it could fetch anything from £25-£50. Then put the money towards something like a Beocentre 5000 or a Beocentre 7000/7002/7007 or a vintage B&O seperates system.

Hi,

We've been given a Beocenter 2000 which works fine except for the tape deck which has no belts, does anyone have any old units they no longer require or could point me in the direction of a UK supplier.
