The guy who sold me the cartridge says it was working when he tested it and he is happy to refund. I didn't mention that my son forcibly wrecked the cartridge by wrestling the tone arm - he could have damaged something in the tone arm that is causing this problem? Could it also be dirty connections in the cartridge?

The first cartridge has had the stylus ripped out of it. Can Axel fix/replace this? Also, I've come across the Sound Smith site and have e-mailed but had no reply to date. Anyone know if they are still active, how reliable they are?

Thanks in advance

Re: beocenter 2000 - faulty cartridge / stylus

I'll second Martin's post, Get the first MMC20 retipped at Axel, http://www.schallplattennadeln.de/ , Good service and great quality.

Sounds like you have two dead cartridges now.
Buying a used cartridge off f.e. Ebay is always a gamble.

I would suggest sending the original cartridge to Axel in Germany and have it rebuilt.
It's a bit costly but worth every euro in my opinion, especially since you are so happy with the Beocenter.

Your tapedeck will probably need new belts, I can supply them if that is indeed the case.

Martin

beocenter 2000 - faulty cartridge / stylus

Hi,

This is my first post. I have a Beocenter 2000 - it is in pretty good nick but the tape player is shot. I love its sound and enjoy listening to records using the unit.

My 2 year old son wrecked the turntable cartridge a few months ago and I quickly discovered how expensive these are to replace. This unit uses the MMC 20 S.

I bought a 2nd hand MMC 20 S cartridge off Ebay recently and after installing it only one channel plays back. Both channels are fine when using the radio and the speakers and leads are fine.

The right channel works, however an odd thing happens when engaging the record player - when the needle hits the record a brief burst of music comes through the left channel and then nothing. A brief burst of music also comes through the left channel when disengaging just as the needle rises off the record surface.

Just wondering if this indicative of some other type of fault or whether the needle is faulty? I don't have a magnifying glass to properly check the needle out.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Cheers
