The pre in/out is very useful when you own an AV7000! On the other hand, it might just be there to fill a hole in the chassis.....

But then years later, the RCA connectors
returned in the 8000 and 6000 series and again in the 5000 and 5500
series. But they disappeared again with the 6500 models...
Obviously some new beancounters once again ordered to cut the costs in
the production. It has happened quite a few times in the history of
B&O

In
all fairness, the 6500 gained two Powerlink sockets and one more input
DIN, so there simply wasn't room for more connectors without a major
mechanical redesign. The connector bay is packed, the only thing that
could go is the mostly useless pre in/out link.

Also, I suppose connectivity with Kikinoko peripherals wasn't a
major point for anyone buying a new Beomaster those days, so RCA's
simply weren't that important any more / yet. There weren't too many
iPods or internet radios around

Re: Beocord 8002 mystery hole?

tournedos:

At the finish line in Struer there was an end check technician, his name was Jens Dram, he did like to drink, but was not allowed to drink hard liquer during work time (beer was allowed as everywhere in DK), he found out that a small pocket bottle fitted just inside the chassis, to get unseen at the liquer he bored a hole in each unit he was checking, through the hole he put a strawhalm into the bottle and this way he could get through the day without starting shaking, the overseers never found out.

Today Jens is dead and on the graveyard in Struer you can find a stone engraved with "Under these empty bottles rests Jens Dram".

It seems that a socket can be build in. For BeoCord 9000 a timer relay box was available which made it possible to switch on a receiver which had no datalink (for instance BeoMaster 4400 as an example) for a timer recording with the internal clock of BeoCord 9000. Maybe the hole was used to mount a socket for a connector for the Timer Relay Box. But I can't find any info about it in the service documentation. I can actually see the hole drawn in the service documentation!

Re: Beocord 8002 mystery hole?

No apologies needed here, Mika!
But there's plenty of mysteries like this in all equipment. A feature like that may have been drawn in there during mechanical design, even before the rest of the specs had been fixed, and ruled out before actual manufacturing. Then it'll get dragged along with no purpose, just like an appendix.

Along these lines, it could've also been "room for expansion" for some planned product variant (using the same case parts) that never was.
