Thanks, Mika. I'll still get rid of the plastic. though. I can't abide the thought of it melting into the works for whatever reason. You're quite right, the foil probably isn't going to bother anything as long as I can stop thinking about it. A cake pan! What'll they think of next? I would rather use a ten foot pole if I could. Right now it's pumping Wagner through my m100's and I love it!

Not so sure about the inside of the cover, there's a slim chance that it has been put there to prevent some odd radio interference or something... It won't hurt anything if it has been properly insulated so you could just as well leave it be.

The CD50's can be a bit spiritual in their workings. I try to avoid touching mine even with a six foot pole - apart from changing the disc - as long as it works!

Blackrix, sent you a PM. Mystery of the mechanism cover partially solved. Did a google search for the imprint on the foil and, guess what? It's for a food service cake pan!! Now the only question is, "Why"! The player seems to work just fine without it. and I'm supposing the rest of the foil is bogus too! unless some one can give me assurance that it should be there, it's going!

Thanks, Blackrix. It looks like the small 'smoked' window in the display glass has nothing behind it. So, there goes hope of adding a remote, if I could even find one! Unless someone know of a floating PCB out there,

Now to the foil. There is foil on the top of the cabinet. It may be glued in spots, but mostly it's taped. Plus ( I didn't take note of this before) it's covered by a sheet of thin plastic, also taped. The more I look at it, it looks like just grocers aluminum!! And the foil over the mechanism, I could swear that someone took a roasting tin (from the grocers again) and made a cover to retain heat. I wouldn't think you would want to retain heat in a piece of electronics like this?

Thanks, Martin, I was afraid of all that. I was hoping to be able to access more functions by 'circumventing' the remote, but it doesn't appear it would yield any more than the present front panel controls, right? I willl wait for a cd terminal. I waited for the Beolab terminal and 3 of them came up in short order on the Bay. Lucky me! Am I just being a real 'newbie' about the foil jazz?

The Master Control Panel 5000 will ONLY control the Beomaster 5000 plus
eventual datalink products connected to the Beomaster 5000.
(As can be found countless places in the forum if you do a search).

If you connect the CD50 to a Beomaster 8000, it will play fine. You will
not be able to control it per remote though, since it will have to connect to
a tape input to get the line level correct but, being a Beogram, it will only
accept Beogram commands. This means that to start the CD50, you would have to
press phono on the Beomaster (or remote) and that will switch the Beomaster
away fom the tape inputs.

Hardwiring won't give you a lot of functions, really.
Actually merely "Play/Standby/Track" and "Display".
And it won't be a remote, only a cable control.

I suggest you find a remote kit instead or simply accept no remote.

You van tell if the extra IR-module is installed if it is in there! On the right side of the display there is a square opening in the black glass. If there is a PCB then the receiver is installed. If not, then there is no receiver.

The remote has a unique code, so it can't be controlled by a Master Control Panel 5000 or the 5000 terminal. You could also look for a IR Code Converter. With this kit you can control your BeoMaster 5000 and your CD50 with a BeoLink 1000.

CD50 foil?

Just got a Cd50 off Fleabay, and I have a few questions. 1) I see no mention of a heat/electrial foil shield over the CD mechanism in the parts list or diagrams of the service manual. Or the aluminum that appears to be taped on the inside of the top case cover. Is that factory or add-on? 2) How do I tell if the optional IR board is installed? (Just in case I happen to find a terminal) and last: Could a Master Control 5000 be used for extra CD functions with my BM 8000 (in case I never find a terminal). My only other resort would be to try to hardwire some spare control buttons to the PCB for some of the remote functions.
