Someone had had a candle on the top of the BM and the wax had poured in thrue the air vent holes on the top. Nothing was broken and I just removed the stuff from the circuit boards.

Crackley channel could be caused by a dirty potentiometer (volume, other adjusts) or the push-buttons. Could be as easy as just applying some contact cleaner to the switches and pots.

Bm1000 to experiment on.

I have just got hold of another BM1000 which I plan to do some work on to hone my soldering skills. Its an early white key version that has Danish towns/stations on the dial instead of the normal frequencies. One channel is rather crackley so I am hoping to be able to sort this out by changing caps, any hints as to which it may be or should I just change the lot. . The whole thing is filthy inside, whats the best way to clean it up.

I must admit that I only really got it to be a spares unit but its too nice to take apart and apart from the dodgy channel, its really nice.
