On the whole they do better when used!

Re: Noisy left channel on BM 8000

Peter :

The only other thing is that it actually ran pretty cool when I had it. I wonder if a variable resistor is going - is one side hotter than the other?

Peter,

Thanks for the response.

It runs equally warm/hot across the whole width/length of the heatsink. I was planning to give the 8000 a break for a few months from being my main system and going back to the 4004/4400/S45.2s/CDX that's been languishing in the bedroom ever since I bought the Beolab from you, so I may ask Tim to look at it whilst it's not getting so much use - the rotary volume control plays up intermittently as well.

By the way, the capacitors were replaced in 2003!

If it my old 8000, it had a new set of capacitors and variable resistors - can't remember when but I think I sent the service invoice up with it.

Noisy left channel on BM 8000

My Beomaster 8000 has recently started to get intermittemtly noisy in one channel. It usually starts after the amp has well and truly warmed up (well, the heatsinks run pretty hot). It's the same on all inputs - phono, tape, CD and radio. The noise sounds a bit like a poor connection and the signal will sometimes drop out completely. I've swapped the speaker connections from LS1 to LS2, the speaker cable, and the speakers themselves and the problem persists in the left channel. It doesn't occur with headphones at all which I suppose means its one of the power amps.

Any thoughts?
