Hi Martin,

thanks for the lead regarding reconing. I'm afraid they no longer offer the service & neither does the other reconer in UK who doesn't touch Hifi stuff.

Despite my best efforts, the one speaker centrepiece has contact & so distorts , not so much with music but with radio voices .

As i haven't the facilities for reconing the spider bit I'm stuck but am reluctant to throw away the offending speaker .

Did you say you had the facilities for reconing? if so how much would it cost?

Make sure to shim and align the coil/spider/center piece or you will risk distortion and/or
damage to the drivers. That's an important step that most foam sellers don't mention.
And then a new dustcap to finish the restoration.

Yup , that's the way i'm going... i've found some rubber rings & glue on ebay from a guy in The Netherlands. Should be here before next weekend with instructions . The 901 goes with the 2702s destined for the kitchen . & the 1400 runs the M70's in the lounge.

The bulbs which i couldn't get before were the ones that go behind the red & green plastic on front of the 1400. they were naked bulbs as far as i can remember. first of all the red light went, so we didn't know when it was on or off & then a green one went , making it difficult to get tuning spot on & i found identical ones amongst all the Scalextric stuff I've collected for the kids over the years. Only one of my two tuning bulbs was gone and when I fitted the little bulb in as a replacement for the blown tuning bulb ( that was the headlight out of a porsche 911 i think!, or it may have been a mk 2 escort) it was a perfect match

Welcome to Beoworld !

Wonderful classic system(s) BTW.
The Beomaster 901 will maybe not have a lot of excess power for the M70 speakers
but it will sound good !

I suggest you spend whatever little money you have left on having the original woofers
repaired (refoam'ed) rather then buying new woofers that won't be exact to specs.
Finding modern woofers with the same specs (that's much more than size and impedance) will
not be easy, let alone cheap. My bet is that the cost of having the originals refoam'ed will be close
to that of buying new ones.
There are several good refoam'ers, both prof ones and experienced Beoworld'ers who may
be able to help you.
I'm in Denmark and I have done a lot. Reconelab would be one of the prof. in the UK and I'm sure
that a couple of Beoworld members will be geographically close to you and able to help you.

I can supply most Beomaster and Beocenter lamps/bulbs if you still need.

hi there.. this is my first post.. joined today.

I got my first B&O stuff about 25 years ago, newly married (no money), when people still bought stuff from free-ads in local newspapers Beocenter 1400 & Beogram 1202 with some M70 speakers and they have been great & are still main system we use. I decided to trade up & become respectable as, up until then, my Hifi had been a valve driven system that My brother had built in the 1960's & my dad had put in a homemade box with a turntable from goodness knows where..(it was a great source of heat in my bedroom) .

a few years ago some of the lightbulbs needed replacing & as they were no longer available i started buying other defunct B&O systems to harvest for spare parts & now I've got quite a collection... never did find the same bulbs in the other systems. In the end I sourced the right spec bulbs from Scalextric !

just this week i picked up a beogram 1203 & beomaster 901 ( same design as beocenter 1400) which came with some Beovox 2702 speakers. Just cost me £50 which was worth it just for the stylus !

The outer cones of the speakers (2702) are completely disintegrated , so, what to do?

Having searched the net for a solution & not really finding one other than replacing them with speakers of same impedance and diameter my decision to get involved with this forum is driven by the reluctance to throw anything away before i have exhausted all avenues of enquiry. Can you help ?

All Beovox 2700 and 2702 suffer from foam rot.
Very much so. But can be repaired, I've done a lot.

The front grill is glued to the aluminum strip.
Insert a 2-3cm wide spatula between the alu strip and the front grill and carefully lever
the grill up, a little at a time, working your way around the grill a couple of times and it
will eventually come off.
It's clothed masonite so don't force it or it will break.
Glue the front grill back using contact glue. Just a few spots, the corners etc., not the whole
circumference or you will never get it off again.

Nice little speakers BTW.
