Hi everyone

The beta version of my BM4000 pretuner cover has now dried and I was able to take some photos. Doesn't look too bad but plenty of room for improvement. Anyway, the first pass only gets the dimensions sorted out and identifies all of the construction techniques that have to be improved.

I will now wait for a rainy day to try again.

Thanks for the pics and measurements.That should do the trick.Geoff,sounds like you have a plan,I will follow your lead on this one(again).One thing I forgot to mention,but maybe you have already discovered.When I was polishing the top and bottom edges of the windows,I thought being a narrow edge I could get away with skipping the ten micron sandpaper.This proved to be wrong,the surface was dull.So I went back at it with all the grits briefly including the 10 micron and the red rouge.The results were very good.A nice glass like edge.Just a little FYI from my own trials.

Not great photos and from a stored spare unit so it's not clean but...

Note the corners are taken off the outer edge of the prongs

Nice photos, I haven’t actually seen the tuner cover before. Can you provide me with the dimensions of the plastic cover for the pre-tuner. I have some ideas how to make a replacement one fairly easily. L x W X H and thickness will do for a start. Also, it is hard to determine from your photos whether the cover plate covers the sides or is actually set between the two sides. Any information will be useful.

That's what I was thinking.If I were to manufacture one I would use Polycarbonate(bullet proof glass)much stronger than standard plexiglass and just as easy to work with.

To me, it looks like those clips will take maybe 10 removal / installation cycles before one of them snaps off. Then the cover won't stay in place and gets lost...

Interesting piece.Not too complicated though.It looks like the type of piece that got removed and eventually lost over time.I assume it just has some small tabs that snap in to the grooves to hold it in place?

Absolutely a nice result !

The same FM preset cover was also used on Beocenter 3500 and Beomaster 4000/4400
but is missing on 95% of them.

If it's not too much trouble I would love to see a couple pics of one of those covers.I have never seen one before.I guess I would have to see one before deciding if it is worthy task to undertake.

Chris:Thanks alot!Actually my camera is not that good and does not even do this thing justice,and of course my original windows were some of the worst I have seen.Quite often the "homebrew" projects end up sub par,but this was not the case,these things look factory new.

Paul - I can't wait to see how you get on making the preset cover for it!!

I do remeber quite some time ago someone did make a preset cover - from a CD case if I recall.

Someone did - it was Beoworld member & ex moderator Kevin who made one & very good it was too. He made it from a CD jewel case but I don't know exactly how.

I am totally impressed with the before & after photo's - the difference is staggeringly good.
