Same here: i also just keep track of it to see what's going on but you can't make anything out of it.

My guess it's also one of these things that when people have (little) less to spend, they stop ebay-ing.

It's not only 'useability' i'm sure....like paying 450 euro for a 608 stereo tube amp, which can be used (with adapters to the din connections) but still 'specwise' isn't anything impressive.

Also i've seen the 'tr26' (radio beo) going for 350,- a few years ago, classified as 'rare' (while there are still piles out there).

Not to mention the 'cubes'....

On the other hand it seems even now the 70's beolit still 'go strong' but i guess it's also because there aren't many good/complete ones around.

But obviously the 'market' is small for these items, it's fun to keep track though.

I had the Master 43 on my watch list as well, and it really is gone (as are all his listings???). I didn't seriously think of buying it though, I just like to follow the prices - I'm pretty much maxed out with space for my collection now.

I agree many of these deals seem highly underrated. I guess it's because most people don't have any use for old AM only radios, and they don't fit as ornaments in many places either. So it's only hard core collectors and general loonies like us that buy them

Mika, i think you're 'lucky' to get an original one, the same seller offered one earlier with the Peerless speaker (mentioned in this thread) abt which we have doubts abt it's originality.

Anyway, the price is nice too, so funny that a 60's amp goes for 450,- and a 38 radio for so little money :)

Oh well, as long as it gets a good home :).

But (whisper), i saw a few days ago he\s now offering the master 43 (!!).....:):)

Just checked: it 'dissapeared'...(was in 'my ebay' so if the auction had ended it should have listed), anyone here ??? :)

A '63 mini 607 went for 15,- btw (imho not a very interesting radio but 15,- ???)

Not a bad idea. Perhaps there's a market for iPod leads to the Grammofon connector?

Same problem here. Build your own short-range AM transmitter, connect to a CD player or similar and transmit anything you like.

I agree on the longevity. I've always liked old tube radios. The problem with this is that it has no FM and we don't have any AM stations left over here in Finland anymore. When I was a kid, I lived near Lahti - marked on this radio as well at 254 kHz - and that LW station was so powerful that you could directly drive a small loudspeaker from a crystal receiver. Sadly, it's not there anymore but at least they saved the antenna masts. Now I live less than a kilometer away from where the Helsinki AM station (Helsingfors on this radio) used to be, but there's nothing left of it.

Edit: I googled a little, and found out that the Lahti station was actually one of the most powerful radio stations in Europe for a while. The masts were built in 1927 and they rose to 150 meters with a distance of 316 m. By 1929, the transmission power was 40 kW. In 1953, the power was 200 kW and stayed there until the station was shut down in 1993. It now houses a museum, which I sadly have never visited. I'll have to go there soon

Cool...where did it come from ? (you got it from an auction site and had it shipped ??).

I'm sure it'll 'outlive' the later generation (plastic) systems, which in a way will make it more of a challenge in future to find these in a good condition :).

But these old radio's...all wood, metal...with a little bit of tlc it'll last longer than us :).

Yes, I read the whole thread - actually found it only after buying this when I did a search for any previous talk on the subject. This one has the Perma Kino speaker as well. And it really was the girlfriend's fault - I showed the listing to her saying "I don't know if I should bid on this or not..." and she said yes, you do I had doubts only because I was pretty sure the poor radio wouldn't survive the travel, but it was packed very carefully.

Thank you The dial was actually the thing that got my attention instantly! I would've paid the price for just the looks of this radio even if it didn't work at all.

Yes, the back cover came off, the power cord plug is keeping it in place. I removed the newspaper pieces that were stuffed in, and as everything looked pretty neat and clean, had the courage to plug the radio in and turn it on. It works! I get strong reception on the SW 18-54 m scale with just a length of wire stuck in the antenna socket. Other scales give mostly interference, maybe they have a problem or I have too many computers on... Other than that, the tuning controls seem to slip a little and need attention.

Looks like I have another piece of B&O kit I'll never sell!
