1. The tool provided is a small flat bladed anti-static scredriver with a little B&O emblem on the end of the handle. I can't find my spare one - I'll let you know if I do!

I'll have another look in there, can't possibly be that the previous owner has adjusted the weight so many times that it's gotten worn round! I do have small screwdrivers - but thanks.
2. Yes. Down is damped; up is very quick and makes a fair noise - solenoid !
Abrupt engineering, then. Just wanted to be certain that it was OK.
3. You can play round with platter height and getting the platter central easily. The service manual for this model is excellent and on site!
Found it. Yes, that looks straightforward, and will solve the problem.

Yes - may I also point out that the seller used a Michael Bolton record to demonstrate that the unit was working. I will have to perform a purification ritual.

MMC20E!! Sacrilege! Wrong colour! I have a nice MMC4000 you may have - PM me your address and I'll send it to you. Much better cartridge and silver! The original cartridge was the SP15 and later this became the MMC4000. I do actually have a spare surround for the BG4000 if you or anyone else needs one in rosewood. The MMC4000 had lost its clear plastic piece at the front but I have just glued it back!

Beogram 4000 question - stylus force

Well, got my Beogram 4000 in the door half an hour ago. Put it all together and it plays, has indicator lights working and is a well taken care of unit. Very happy! (Will need to buff the lid, to get rid of some light scratching, but that's for an evening where applying elbow grease seems right),

1. Adjusting the stylus force. Don't have the manual, but am assuming it's the same as the 4002, which is on the site. However, it looks as if the tool to do the adjustment is an umbraco headed screwdriver, and not philips or regular?

2. On the BG4000, when I push the up arrow, the tracking arm leaps up smartly, instead of rising with BG6500 smoothness. Is this SOP?

3. I believe the platter may be just a smidgen too low, as the record seems to be touching the surrounding metal. Easily adjustable? (More noticeable with a 180g LP than with a regular weight one. Very soft touch, but still there, shouldn't be).

Rosewood (palisander). No scratches anywhere. MMC 20 E pickup that produces a nice and wide soundstage. Suspect the stylus force is too high, though.
