Maybe the person responsible for setting the serial number machine during manufacturing had an early lunch break?

I noticed that too.
Maybe it's just worn off the black color.

I'm sure that the first Beolit 707 didn't carry serial number 1 so there must be another explanation.

Antenna (tip) has been replaced ?

Normally this is black on black beolits and silver on silver beolits (not that that explains the serial number...).

Strange indeed.
The only explanation I can think of is that some major part - maybe the whole chassis - was replaced at some point.

Geoff,

Very interesting though I am a bit sceptic regarding the serial number.
They are normally somewhere around the 1610000-1620000 range for the Beolit 707's and
B&O only used the serial number 1 once, and that was back in 1925 or so.

A photo of the number would be great to see if possible.

If you are to offer it for sale in this forum then minimum silver membership level is required to post it in the sales section.

These are definately sought after radios although I'm not sure of the significance of the serial number as I'm no expert but if it is the first one made then it will definately add to the collectability and HERE is the place to offer it to a serious collector. If it is simply a standard issue item then ebay is the best place to gain the best price. Ensure you have a good description & photo's and that it is listed in the correct sections of ebay.

I would be surprised if it sells for less than £100 if all the parts are intact & original.

I have owned a Beolit 707 since new (1975). It has a serial number of 000001. Still in good working order though showing signs of use. It is likely that it might it might be of interest to collectors, etc.??
