I also thougt it was expensive for a non-completely-working unit. Anyway, B&O has good reputation here in Sweden. We will see how it ends, nothing is impossible. I have lots of units "which I dont care about and almost paid nothing for". We will see.

Thanks for you response!

Re: Beocenter 8000, possible to replace CD?
The BC8000 is definately the least specified of these beocenters and what he is in effect selling is a £200 (plus) radio cassette player at present. The amp isn't a particularly good one in these models so the lack of powerlink for active speakers really does make it quite limited.

I wouldn't personally give him more than £50 for it as it stands, £200 would be a real gamble in the hope it is a simple fix IMO.

I went by to buy some lamps to a another vintage Sansui receiver. I normally try to fix things by myself. I have never left anything with a repairman, YET. I don´t know how good he is, maybe not the best, and definetly not a specialist at B&O. I am thinking of exchanging some stuff which I don´t like for this unit. I am not having a complete B&O home so I wont be needing links. Although, the possibilty to use active speakers would have been nice.

If I "buy it" I rely on this forum to get it working ;-)

Thanks for comments

This is easy to fix by someone familiar with these things (not knowing your repairman, I can't say if he has tried this already).

However, there might other problems as well - mine apparently had a servo board with some bigger problem. I had pretty much given up, but then a BC8000 CD mechanism turned up on eBay and it worked straight away.

(I always thought the CD mech was a one-off for this model, but I recently had a BC9500 for repairs and it had exactly the same mech - the laser on that was dead, but I managed to make that one work with the mechanics of my spare unit and the original servo board.)

About the worth, it's hard to say - I like the looks even better than the "mirrored" BC9500, but the lack of link support and active speaker connections make it a bit more limited in some environments. Anyway, you don't usually see clean and working specimens from this series exchange hands for less than 300-400 euros. I don't think I'll sell mine, though!

Re: Beocenter 8000, possible to replace CD?

Neg. aspects of the 8000 model compared to 9000/9500?

CD mechs are no longer available as far as I know. Although usually it is a problem with a bad capacitor. An 8000 with the same problem sold last week on Ebay for just over £100.

I have got a Beocenter 8000 on the hook. I have a pair of questions:

The CD does not work. It is a repairman how is selling it so I am thinking it is nothing you fix easy. Can you buy and exhange the whole CD mechanism or parts?

I have always wanted a 9000 och 9500, but I liked the black finish on this one, is it much worse than the 9000/9500?

How much is a unit with non-working CD worth?

Thank you for answers
