I also sprayed the switches with Q20 which also really helped. All the caps have been changed and tractor belts (not too long ago).

Its not the best B&O by far but it sounds pretty good especially after being recapped. Was a pleasure to work on. Undo three screws and it all opens up, not like some others I've worked on!

My friend is really chuffed to have it back!

Re: BM 1700 faulty buttons

Poor materials used in the construction is the problem. Mine did the same - I used some shims to lift the plastic rail a little and it was better if not perfect. The tractor belts are also weak and if they snap, finding replacements seems almost impossible. Not nearly as good an amplifier as the BM1500 it replaced. And although more dramatic, not anything like as well made. It did have a glass top unlike the 6000 though.

BM 1700 faulty buttons

The buttons on my BM 1700 have gone faulty. They work, that is, switch the unit on but they won't stay on. Volume, Balance, Bass, Treble work as they should but all the others won't stay in place. You have to hold the button down to listen.

Any help would be appreciated as a friend of mine has been using it and is now quite disappointed not to have it working!

Thanks

Ben
