I plugged in some speakers and there was nothing but aloud constant humming no matter what I did. Next step check on Beoworld, Vintage products. I entered a search for the Beomaster3000-2 and up came a series of threads which I read through and the first thingI notice was that this was a common problem but easily solved, Fantastic! So I followed the threads and theadvice given. I sprayed all thecontacts I could see including the test switch at the rear. I also removed the aluminium strip onthe front with the sliding controls on and then cleaned the switches behindwith a very fine emery board on the metal strips inside. I also gave these athorough spray with contact cleaner and then silicon lubricant. I reassembled it and tried again. Even louder buzzing, on no! I then remembered something buried deepin one of the Beoworld threads that mentioned a problem with the testbutton. I switched this to thedown position and the buzzing stopped. I tried both the radio and my iPod plugged into the tape sockets on therear and I could hear music but very very quietly.

3. I took the top and front panel off again and gave anotherapplication of contact cleaner. Reconnected and the same result but this time when I switch the testbutton to the up position the sound is much much louder but there is still aconstant buzzing in the background. Also having adjusted the balance slider I notice that with both theradio and the iPod that there is nothing coming from the left speaker only theright. If I slide the balanceselector all the way to the left I get no sound at all but all the way to theright, some sound as described above.

So, finally, can anyone please give me any advice on what mynext step should be? Should I keep cleaning the contacts with spray? I have also noticed that on the bottomthat there are some adjustable screws with L & R on for different inputs oroutputs. As I have no user manualI have no idea what these are for. Also it has become obvious to me that someone has previously tried tocarry out some repairs on this Amp and I wonder if they may have altered thesetting on the L&R screws on the bottom, what do these do, should I tryadjusting them?

The very last thing is good news; I have spent a good fewhours now with very fine wire wool and bees wax and the wooden cover looksgreat. I have also been cleaningall the aluminium with cotton buds and it has all come up looking likenew. Externally it looks like ithas just come out of the showroom I just wish I could make it work perfectlyagain as this is such a beautiful looking piece of furniture in its own right.

Any help or advice that you can offer would be greatlyappreciated and hopefully will result in a Beomaster 3000-2 being restored backto its original beauty.

Many thanks

Peter G
