Kind of influenced me in buying although I suppose considering the price I certainately can't complain. I'm very happy I bought it but is it considered a bit of an outcast among B&O's? Also does the glass cover lift up at all?

I just bought one of these Beomaster 1700s last week on eBay with Beocord 1700 and two S30s ........for £16
The cassette works perfectly and the whole system sounds great but crackles when each slider is used (The glass is detatched but intact)
The speaker sockets have to be jiggled and everything needs a good clean, the catterpillar tracks work if you press hard on the wheel bit but looking forward to tidying this up.
More exciting than this, Today I took delivery of a pair of Beovox S120. No cables and, as anticipated they have foam rot. Perfect cases and frets. Going to attempt my own refoaming. Anybody dealt with Audiofriends on eBay?
In the back of the S120s is a circular recess with a flat pin and a round one, is this just the normal connector like those that Jay sells?

Probably from a brochure. The reviews on Beocentral are perhaps a little more balanced! Some reviews on Beoworld (and even a couple on Beocentral) were written by me, I am afraid! The 'lid' is held by two or three little self tappers at the front and then lifts up. There is even a 'bonnet stay'!

I think he has bought the other 1700 - the type 1701. The older Beolab 1700 amplifier and Beomaster 1700 tuner are much less common on Ebay. I had the tuner but never the amplifier. Not to be confused with the Beomaster and Beolab 5000! Never really saw the point of the BLand BM1700 as the 1100 did the same thing in a smaller box!

I take it you mean the tractor drive one rather than the tuner? Looks wonderful and the glass top is what the earlier BM6000 quad should have had.
I am going to disagree with Casdave on this one though - very unusual! It is an indirectly coupled amplifier and seems a step backwards in amplifier design compared to designs like the 1500 and more like a 901. The control mechanism, although wonderful to look at, is actually clumsily executed with fragile plastic parts that mean it is unreliable. The tuner is OK though. I remember it coming out, and my dealer advising me to avoid it! (Thanks Dennis!) I did get one later on to add to my collection, and he was right! The 2200 is much the same price now, if not cheaper and blows both the 1700 and 1900 out of the water.
The 1700 does look good though!

A quick note only...

The Beolab 1700 and Beomaster 1700 are of the very same family as Beomaster 901. All is based on the 901 development and is variations of this circuit design. There is one very critical point regarding the cabinet. More than 70% of all the product are not cosmetical 'nice' anymore. This is because the wood on the two sides of the cabinet does not go very well plastic, which 'holds' the wood.

However even if a restoration seems easy, original veneer as B&O allways have used is not easy to find in the correct quality and 'look'.

The above problem of the cabinet goes for all the products in the 901 family or 26xx series.

But --- I think the Beolab 1700 and Beomaster 1700 is a very good looking system. The two are designed to be used together and is very rare and 'unknown'.

Unfortunately I won't be seeing it anytime soon as its in the U.K. and I'm in South Africa. I have to wait for a family member or friend from the U.K. to bring it over with them for me. Luckily I'm fairly patient. I will hope for the best.

It is not that bad! I bought one! And it is a very clever design! I have just got the service manual - so will scan it as soon as I can for you! Just in case!

oh dear! Well I won't really be using it anyway. I liked the look and who knows if it does work![:'(] The Product Info on Beoworld had rather wonderful things to say about it! Well it didn't cost me much so I suppose it doesn't really matter
