If you're looking for Vox 3000's you might try checking German second hand products sites (other than ebay), here in NL once in a while they pop up and sell for very little money (i have 2 pairs here, 1 set painted unfortunately and the other recently bought with 2 cubes with a missing shield for 30,- euro !!).

The only trouble with the cubes is finding an undamaged pair, apart from that they pop up regularly on the internet sale sites.

Another famous omni-directional concept is Grundig Audiorama (full range spheres) from the 70s, and though having seen neither "live", I have to say I like them quite a bit more than Beovox 2500. They are actually available new again!

I saw these things in MOMA in NYC years ago.

I only learned through this thread that they were designed to be used in addition to Bevox 5000 speakers.

This is interesting because this must have been one of the earliest "satellite" systems. Note that they are omni direction and cube shaped; surely this must have been an inspiration for Bose's AM-5!

Of course Bose made a fortune on the concept and hardly anyone is aware of B&O's contributions.

If you really want the best, contact Frede at Classic Audio in Denmark. He was featured in the last Magalogue and is a lovely man. He kindly hosted the last Beoworld trip at Venø when they visited Struer. What he does not know about this era of equipment is not worth knowing. A number of us either have or will be getting Classic Audio systems. These will not be the cheapest but will be the best. Well worth looking at his site but be aware it will cause you to want to spend a lot of money!

Thank you all for your replies. I hope I will soon get my desired Beovox 2500! Although owing to you I am aware that I need the other speakers to listen some good music on them! Oh dear... another expense.

They are not full range speakers and, as Chris says, produce hardly any sound when used alone. They do however make quite a difference when used with other speakers - they widen the sound stage quite dramatically. I used them with RL60s and actually was quite impressed!

Hello Chris, Andy now has them, along with the relevant system, so they are getting around a bit, I suspect that's where they will stay for quite some time too.

As for the compatible speakers,Beovox 5000, Beovox 4000, Beovox 3000, Beovox 1500.

The 3000 - especially the first version - and the 4000s are quite rare, much more difficult to find than the 5000.

Not exactly, but you do really need compatible speakers - as Craig has mentioned - with the extra DIN output to connect these to. The 2500's were really designed to enhance the high frequencies of certain speakers and by all accounts they do a very good job.

I tried connecting mine to the speaker 2 outputs of my Beomaster 5500 to use with some RL60.2's and the results were quite bad - well horrible if the truth be known. They really are very very limited as far as usability goes but don't let that stop you buying some, IMO they are probably the best speaker investment you will ever make - certainly better than sticking your money in an Icelandic bank at the moment.

The Beovox 5000's have a connection on the rear for the Beovox 2500's, as do the older type Beovox 3000's

To be brutally honest they are pretty useless unless you have the correct set up for them (beolab 5000 system). I had a pair in fairly good condition which I bought purely on looks and to me they ended up as being no more than very pretty paper weights!

I did play them on their own just the once and they almost caused the wax in my ears to melt - "yodelling stick insects" is the phrase that springs to mind! I have to admit that when they do appear on ebay I am always tempted to bid on them as they are just sooo cool looking

I sold/swapped them to member casdave for the equivalent of @ £100 a few years ago as I knew he had the Beovox 5000's to match them. A happy outcome for both of us

I agree 100% with Mika, £50 was a very good weeks wages in Britain back in the 70's.

But Britain had very heavy inflation in the 70s, and the value of money has changed a lot. 50 pounds in 1970s money would have had about the same purchasing power as 500-1000 pounds today! So the cubes wouldn't have been such a winning investment after all

Thank you Chris for your reply. I can imagine why the Beovox 2500 reach so high prices nowadays. I have been hunting for two months for these loudspeakers on ebay and still with no luck.
