Hi All,

Just thought that I would make my first post on the new forum an update with some good news!

Got my BM6000 back finally this week after nearly 9 weeks and quite some frustration.

But the result is all good I have to report.... now despite a short panic caused by a loose contact on my airport which caused staticy, distorted sound in only one channel... the tune up was really worth the effort.

I think that after changing the caps (thanks again martin) and the tune up that the sound feels more effortless ... could this be the case? ..... Now of course this could also be attributed to me being glad its back and also to the fact that while the unit was away, I ripped all my CDs in lossless and now stream using airtunes. This means my input is now far better quality than either via Ipod or the CD from the DVD player thru the TV ....

So all in all am very happy ...

Thanks for taking the time to answer its appreciated as I know its not easy when travelling.

As usual you understand the exact problem. Well, now I think that I have all the info I need to take the unit and be able to brief the guy at the service centre so that it gets a really good tune up!

Forgive me for answering very briefly, I'm currently travelling.

1. Standard issue. Cleaning and lubricating, Maybe a new belt.

2. Open inputs will always be very sensitive (due to high impedances). It's not uncommon to see that if you switch to an unused input and turn up the volume (amplification), you can hear what's present on other inputs. I wouldn't worry too much about this,

3. Probably just cracked solders at the connectors to the board at the bottom of the Beomaster, just below the processor board, I believe it's module 14 and their respective connectors on the processor board.

Hey,

Just a bit of an update and a couple of questions which I thought I would share with everyone as others may have similar issues they need to resolve.

Have been monitoring the 'haunting' (thanks Solderon) of this unit, and as its been quite sporadic and hasn't posed any real issue, I delayed doing anything till I go away in a few weeks time.Plan to get the whole unit serviced, inclusive thanks to Martin changing all the caps, resistor required.

I have noted the following small niggles which I would like to also resolve while its there.

1. The volume control has the typical issue of struggling, over 30 it gets a little stuck but continues to move and is a little noisey when you adjust it with no output. Will the simple cleaning and lubrication mentioned in other threads fix this?

2. While testing the volume control last night I had put it to TP1 while TP2 was still receiving signal from the TV... when I put the volume up to around 40 - 50 range, I could hear the TV signal, it was not clear or loud but obvious. When I put to PH I got what appeared more like 'back ground' noise.. Is this 'leakage' between inputs normal? or is it a result of a failure in contact/solder/cap that can be fixed?

3. When the unit is switched off, I get what I can only describe as 'leakage' of power into the LEDs (and mainly the clock and half the input section) making them partially glow. Bad connections / cracked solders?

You can disconnect the remote option board to isolate the fault.

Thanks for your advice, will add it to the list of things to check and change. Yes is quite odd, as i mentioned earlier, it started to occur and became almost daily and now has completely stopped.

Indeed yes,but problematic with later units too I've found.It might be prudent to replace the ir receiver diode while you are at it,as this can become noisy and cause all sorts of odd "hauntings"

Oh yes, I think he is referring to a resistor modification in the
remote control receiver. This was an issue on the very earliest Beomasters
of this type.
Funny if it hasn't surfaced earlier in your Beomaster but I suppose
it's possible.
I can include the resistor and instructions with the kits.

Hi All,

Just an update, the turning on became increasingly frequent (almost daily) last week and has stopped this week... so who knows.. just decided and have ordered my caps from martin and once they arrive and are installed will let you all know how it goes... decided also since I was refurbishing things that i would also change the caps in the speakers, hoping for the same success you all have had!

Solderon whats the 'mod' required that you are refering to? Is it the caps replacement?

Common problem with this unit,but a simple mod should sort it if none of the above remedies suffice.Soldering required,but only one component.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your ideas on how to nip this problem in the bud... Will try each and see whether it solves the issue .. unfortunately its not a music loving cat!

Failing that i will venture into unchartered territory and try opening up the unit and see if I spot any of the internal issues suggested... Have downloaded service manual , so as prepared as I can be! Any tips would be appreciated, will have to also search on the forums again as I'm sure there is a thread somewhere on the caps replacement.

Dillen perhaps you could let me know how much your kits for caps for both the BM and speakers are? So if I need to go this route I can order from you.

Wow, a wall bracket for cats ?
My cat walked on my BM8000 only once. I saw it, put my coffee cup down and was about to get up to teach it when it stepped on the volume wheel, turned a somersault and never came near it again so that problem pretty much solved itself.

Had the cat problem with my old Beocenter 9000, I would walk into the room to find the CD or tape open. Cat's never managed to turn it on though.
