well, that is a good idea.

if the deck is known good, then you should get something out of it.

set the preset vol to low, if you are worried about it being too loud at startup

nothing from the ttable, could be from a bad stylus and nothing else.
nothing from fm, could be the missing aerial -turn the fm and afc switches to "off" and try again.

but, based on your location fm strength could simply be an issue. user: lazerwave on ebay (no affiliation) sells antennas...

should have asked... i assume you plugged the new din plugs into "1" and that the spk switch on the front is set correctly?
you may want to also try moving them to "2" and throwing the switch accordingly...

oh, and have you tried headphones?

I got nothing out of fm then again there was no antenna either. I've found a guy here localy that deals in vintage amps like this to check it out. Then again dout hes ever done a B&O. Tonight Im going to hook up the tape deck and see what happens.

As far as I know thats all that is wrong, but now Im wondering if its from the phono not working going to hook up tape player put it all back to gether and just trouble shoot before I take the 2400 to get fixed. I thought I had read in one of the tech furoms that the light bulbs themselves if blow will keep the volume from working. After chatting with dilland I've learned there is more to it than that and realy dont know where to start looking. Going to contact a budy of mine that I know has fixed a few amps and vintage items like this and get him to look at it.

i did not recall, and after re-reading this thread... any issues you were having w/ the bm other than the volume lights.

Just wonted to thank yall for the help. Im now looking for a remote some speakers and someone to look at the amp for me. Im ok with electronics, but not worty of tackling this afraid I will do more damage than good. Going to get the bulbs and try that after that going to have to take it to someone who can fix it with the manuel. Well guess Im going to have to keep hitting up ebay for some odds and ends.

You're probably right then Graham - senility is catching up with me apace. I know some 'S' series had rubber surrounds and thought the 80's were amongst them. Peter & Martin will know better.

re: the volume lights -it is prob exactly that. the tiny light kernels are prone to failure.
i am surprised that all the other ones work. if you decide to replace them, i would suggest replacing all of them. member: dillen -has a light kit available for these of the correct type.

Im in south east Alabama just 10 miutes north of Fl. All of them seem to work fine with the exception of the volume. Thats awsome I was afraid that I would have to make some. Im glad there is still some parts availble for these older models.

Thank you all for the speaker help. Now I've got to track some down. I have to admitt the area I live in will not have any Im sure so going to have to search the good old net or ebay. If anyone knows some US sorces I would be gratefull. I got the wires in the correct space but the volume still doesn't light up so going to have to take it apart and check those light resistors. Im sure replacing that foam would be no big deal at all so gonna keep my eyes open. Once again thanks,

I think the best thing is to read both here and there. Beoworld product descriptions have the detailed specs, but Beocentral also tells what (if anything) is wrong with a particular product

I recently bought a pair of cheap, ragged S80.2's. I'm restoring them at the summer house where I only have a pair of Jamo Graphic panel speakers (which are not bad!) to compare them to, but my first impression is that they have a really tight lower end for that size and pressure chamber construction, while being surprisingly bright and clear at the same time. Great value for money!

Welcome to Beoworld!

There were two sets of speakers called S45, the S45 and the S45-2. Both sound good, but the S45 suffers from foam rot and the S45-2 doesn't. Confusingly they both say S45 on the front but the S45-2's have a type number of 6312 on the back and the frets at the front come in a single part and are not split into two.

I have two pairs of S45-2's that I for a grand total of £32 for both pairs and I am delighted with them. I had to replace the capacitors in one of the pairs (loads of threads here about that, costs about £10) and give them a bit of a clean and polish but they hold their own against most modern speakers this side of a lot of money.

Almost any of the B&O speakers from around this era will serve you well, I think B&O kit from around this era is some of the best value hi-fi you can buy anywhere at today's prices. http://www.beocentral.com is another good place for info.
