connectors not the male! You will also need adapters to connect any
existing kit to the Beomaster as they use 5 pin DIN plugs.

My
upstairs system is slightly newer than yours, I have a Beolab 1700
(Just an amp, no tuner) I got from ebay for a tenner, some Beovox S30's
(£5 from Ebay, great speakers) and a Beocord 1900 (£12). Dating from
mid 70's to early 80's, they sound fantastic together and I have
connected a 15 year-old sansui CD player via a phono to 5-pin DIN
adapter (from Maplin).

The combination sounds fabulous and has resulted in my modern Kenwood amp being retired to the back of a cupboard.

A word of warning though - the Beomaster won't be the last bit of retro B&O kit you will buy!

Simon

Re: BeoVox 1000 Passive Loudspeaker

Thanks for the help guys!

I think I might get a pair of female plugs so I can hook them up to an existing amplifier I have, but I do quite like the idea of looking out for a Beomaster 1000 and making it a complete vintage set up. I like the styling of the speakers despite their dated appearance and quite a few people have commented on them, especially when they have heard them, even through a very dodgy connection. The sound is brilliant as far as I am concerned, I couldn't have asked for more for £2!

Patrick

Re: BeoVox 1000 Passive Loudspeaker

Nowhere near Hifi really but remarkably warm and well sounding speakers !
Actually, the older speakers generally seem to attract more and more attention and respect, probably amongst true lovers of vintage sound (remember valves ?).
A chain is no stronger than it's weakest link and so back then the speakers needed to be as good as absolutely possible, not just to do their part in the chain but even compensating somewhat for
an inferior amplifier. This is not the case with the Beomaster 1000, though, which is indeed a great amplifier (and superb tuner as well)
which can also be proved by attaching larger speakers.
The combination of Beomaster 1000 and Beovox 1000, as Peter suggests, makes for an attractive and superb vintage setup. Add a good reel-reel tapedeck like a Beocord 1800 or 2400 and you're in business.

Especially the Beovox 1000 and 1200 series seems to be in focus currently, maybe because they somehow "marks the era".
Owners don't seem to mind a costly shipping back and forth, I've
had several in for service lately, also from overseas !

I can supply them but to save on the postage you should be able to find suitable DIN speakers plugs at any well-assorted electronic parts store. We don't have Maplins here in Denmark but I've heard from others that they can supply.

The 2-pin DIN is not as strange as many people tend to think, being the only standard plug for home-stereo speakers.

Martin

Re: BeoVox 1000 Passive Loudspeaker

I would look out for a Beomaster 1000 at the same boot fair! They do come up and for not much more than the speakers! Very fine amplifier as Martin will attest! It also suits the Beovox 1000 very well.

Re: BeoVox 1000 Passive Loudspeaker

Hi,

it's amazing how good some of the older speakers can sound!

If you go to Maplins you can get 2 pin DIN female connectors. Just wire them up and fix to your chosen amp with whatever connectors it needs (or bare wire) they come with screw fittings so you wouldn't even need to solder if you don't want to.

cheers,

Kevin

BeoVox 1000 Passive Loudspeaker

I recently found a pair of these for a mere £2 at a car boot sale, they are in excellent condition and I snapped them up. They still sound great after all this time and I really want to be able to use them. Unfortunately I do not have, and cannot seem to find an amplifier to use them with. They have the 2 pin din connectors which is really problematic. I am very reluctant to snip the ends off and just use the exposed wire but that is what it seems I am going to have to do. Does anyone know where I might be able to get a 2 pin din to more modern connection adapter, it doesnt really matter what but ideally a more standard audio line in. I have looked everywhere and am sceptical as to whether they exist, but it's either that or cut the cable.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)
