Hi Martin

I have exactly the same problem on my Beocord 3300....how do I get replacement belts and/or instructions on how to get the tape out without damaging either the unit or the tape?

Hi Martin

Thanks for the welcome. I was pretty tempted to lever the cassette out when it first stuck I was so annoyed. Resisted temptation and found Beoworld on-line which has been very interesting instead and helped to reinforce cool-headed problem solving.

I would very much like to get those belts from you and have a go at salvaging the situation – what should I do next?

Hi Matt,

First a warm welcome to Beoworld !

Next, Don't force anything in your Beocord !

The tape is stuck because the tapeheads are engaged into the casette housing and the motor cannot transfer enough torque through the belts to release them.
This is a typical symptom of worn belts.
Belts are available as a set (from me) with all three and if you can handle a normal screwdriver you can replace the belts yourself.
Make sure to ask for mounting instructions if you order the belts since they also includes a method for rescueing the stuck tape without damaging anything.

I have a problem as I have a precious tape stuck in a Beocord CD3300 at the moment. A shame because it had sounded exceptionally good until it stopped & jammed. It was only the second time I’d played the unit [first since hanging it on the wall] – part of an Ebay replacement program for an excellent condition, complete 3300 system, owned from new by my Danish wife that got stolen [here in London, of course] just after B&O had serviced it - which made the loss even worse, as their labour was not cheap and it had sounded and looked great for the couple of weeks we got to enjoy it post-servicing. The odds and sods replacements I’ve been building up from Ebay just aren’t as nice – how do people get their stuff to be so sticky?… nothing I own is gummed up like these things…I have my suspicions…

Anyway, to describe the problem: The unit is quiet when first switched on. When play or advance is pressed they light up for a second, there is no motion on the tape itself, no sign that the spindles are even trying to turn and then the Stop light clicks on and stays on. If return is pressed, it lights for a second, then illuminates play and then to stop as above. When play is pressed the record level lights also briefly illuminate, but not for the others. The motor sound starts when any button is first pressed and continues while the Stop light is on until the unit is turned off manually. I’d expected the motor to stop of its own accord eventually.

I am wondering if this sounds like a belt problem, as I have read about elsewhere on the forum, or else a motor fault. I also wondered how easy a job it is for a DIY fix. I built my last PC from barebones and rewired most of the house, but I always struggled with understanding transistors, capacitors and the like when I studied physics…
