I have just brought a beomaster 2000 amp and it has a horrible humming noise that comes out of the speakers. The hum is only there when a input - tape, phono or radio is selected at low volume you cant really here the noise but when you turn the volume up the hum gets worse. I have tried a few different sets of speakers and its exactly the same and I have also tried some headphones to see it it was my speakers on the blink but its exactly the same. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

beocenter 7700 Help!

Hi,can anyone tell me where to find the voltage switch on the Beocenter 7700?
As expected, there are some issues with these receivers I'd like some knowledgeable input on - I am by no means an electronics expert (some messing with LEDs, arduino, basic soldering skills).

The good news: both cleaned up very nicely, have the original remote and they light up.

The bad:

No. 1:

no sound from either the 4 speaker-outputs or headphones, regardless of the input used

the volume control worked a few times, then stopped responding

the tuning dial never worked (both tuning and volume still respond to the remote, so it is almost certainly a failure in the wheels or the processing of the signal from them)

one defective led in the balance display (not a disaster, just mentioning it to be complete)

No. 2:

Fully functional for about 10 minutes total, then a triple plopping noise and no more sound, otherwise all buttons and dials still work ok.

Both now have shaking signal needles at a lower signal strength than before no. 2 stopped working (went from 6-7 to wobbling around 4) mpx light flickers constantly and irregularly in tune with the needle and auto tune no longer zones in on channels. Aside from the dials not responding, the issues of both receivers seem very similar. There was no burning smell, smoke or burnt spots inside (the parts I checked, mainly the backend), which I take as a good sign. No.2 had definitely been opened up before at some point, so perhaps it has had at least some servicing done, No. 1 seems completely original to me.

I humbly request your expert input on possible causes and solutions (does this sound like bad caps?). I'd like to get at least one functional again, I was planning to pass one on to a more skilled enthousiast anyway, one of these monsters is quite enough ;)

thanks in advance!

++++edit++++

sometimes i can be a real dolt...

i not only have one, but two niles audio switch plates that will do this! bought them long ago and forgot i had them.

if anyone is interested... you basically wire the speaker1 outs into the switch. then there are 2 outs that are switch controlled. one is a 2pair back to your speakers, the other is a TRS female for headphones. not exactly my intent when i wrote the post... but i might as well use them! i could run speaker2 to the other side of the bed -and viola -dual headphones!

of course, i'd love to hear about other options... w/o all the work needed for the niles option. a simple lead would be nice!

Beolit 1000 panels

Who knows what type of wood the Beolit 1000 panels are made of ?

There were 3 types of panels i think: goat leather (glued on the wood), teak and oak.

Now i have panels which are painted with some black paint, if i scratch some of it off i can see the teak colour underneath but at the sides and the back it looks like oak.

Could it be all panels were made of oak (or something else) and just coloured/varnished as teak ?

I have been able to fix up pretty much everything (except for the cracked lid), but the phono sound is murky on the left channel (radio & tape from the external connctor are fine), treble seems somehow attenuated.

Could this be a problem in the cartrige itself (seems to be original MMC 3000), which I'm not particularly looking forward to replacing, or does this sound like a possible problem in the phono pre-amp stage? Any other possibilites?

Also, any suggestions on what to use for lubricating the tone arm mechanism? The lift mechanism plunger was frozen solid when I got the machine.
I was amazed to see how accessible vintage B&O products are (financially speaking) and bought myself a PRISTINE Beocenter 4600 (1979) for £50 last weekend. Can anyone suggest a set of speakers that will match the quality (and price!) of that first purchase?

Am I allowed to say that they don't HAVE to be B&O?!

I thought about buying a kit and doing it myself, but I'd rather spend a few extra bucks and have it done right by a reputable shop. Any places or websites in the USA anyone could recommend? Any companies you'd suggest avoiding?

This is my first post, and I think this site is fantastic. Great resources! I currently own a Beomaster 2400, Beogram RX, S-55s, and a Beocenter 2200, all of which I plan on refurbishing over time, so I'm looking forward to getting input and advice from the Forum.

I recently bought a Beocenter 7700 and I love the device! Everything is working with it and it sounds great, but when I play records or a cassette beocenter sometimes turns off randomly. Sometimes it plays the whole record but recently it has been turning off more often in the middle of the record. With tuner it hasn't done that. A friend of mine suggested that it might be an issue with old caps. Any thoughts?

I am hoping those with more knowledge than I may have some comments on this. I have a vintage system comprising of a Beomaster 4000, Beogram 1700, Beocord 1900, and a pair of Beovox s45.2's. I love everything about my system but would like to add a bit more low end to the sound. Does it make sense to add a Cona subwoofer the s45's? I know it was more designed for the CX series, but I'm wondering if adding to my system makes sense as well.

Went today to my local repair shop and picked up new belt for drawer as well as tape transport. When I pop in a tape and hit play, The tape moves for about 1 second and then quits. I have the cover off and can see that the motor (and belt) appears to be spinning just fine.

Sorry to start a new thread if this has been addressed, but I could not find.

The heads engaged and then disengaged. After about 10 seconds, I smelled what I think was some component smoking. Argh!! I unplugged it, waitied a minute, and then plugged it back in. Now, the record player won't work, the tape deck still doesn't work, and the radio doesn't work!!

Yikes! Anyone have an idea of what could have happened? I feel like maybe I fryed some component in the tape deck and that screwed up the whole thing. I'm trying to figure out if I should take it in for repair (I know a good local shop that repaired by BeoGram 8002), or just sell the basically unused MMC20E and cut my losses.

I'm a new member to this forum and I hope to get the necessary help here. I'm not a technical person but I've built a few valve projects. Still new to transistors but I've successfully restored a couple of other vintage SS amp (not BEO).

I was given this BM3000 as a non-working item. It has been stored for many, many years and from what I've seen inside not in very friendly conditions. In general humidity here can be quite high so there are quite a few rusty and/or corroded places. But I was immediately struck by nice rosewood top cover (I only saw B&O products on hi-fi magazines) and I thought this is worth repairing. I haven't plugged it to the mains because I know there are a few things that need fixing for sure:

1. The Balance slide pot has certainly been replaced (and the clip broken as well) because it doesn't travel the whole range of the dial. I would like to know where I can buy the correct slide pot. I also need the clips that hold the pot in place. I tried to read through quite a number of posts here but I didn't come across any reference to these minor items.

2. One of the wires attached to the ON lamp has come off the holder. I need to solder that. Again, is there any shop that sells these things (lamps, lampholder, slider pots, clips for same, etc.)?

I know I still have a lot of work to do: A good clean from the inside, replacing all electrolytics, clean all the switches, potentiometers, input and output sockets, etc. I will go through more Restoration posts here to get as much info as possible. I have already downloaded the service manual and am familiarizing myself with the circuit. Passive components are not much of a concern; it's the bits and pieces that are peculiar to this model that bugs me.

Your input in this respect will be much appreciated. (Sorry for the long post!)

Thanks in advance and Best regards to all members.

I recently obtained a Beomaster 3000.2 and a pair of Beovox 3702. The beomaster and the speaker cabinets are in great shape, but the woofers are completely rotten. They make a scraping noise when moving the cones and the foams are completely gone. I wish I could post pictures, but since recently it seems I cannot post pics anymore on this forum - the menu that comes up when trying to add a pic seem to have changed and only allows to add a URL link...me very sad! Anyway, I am wondering if there are some modern woofers that can serve as a worthy replacement? Any input is welcome!

Thanks!
