God works in strange ways (let me state, I'm an atheist-actually I became a Zen-Atheist while working on the TT. Everything is everything, the ZA mantra)But the God metaphor just makes sense-believe me, if you don't get it now, you will later!

The LED display should illuminate the decimal point when plugged in. If it lights, then the 5vdc section of the supply is probably OK and the 300uA (800uA/220v units) fast fuse inside the transformer case is defenitely OK (how'm I doing Dillen? Oh yeah-did I forget to mention that here you will get expert coaching by REAL technical experts; Dillen has been my mentor-I expect he'll check in) If it doesen't, the simplest first step is to give up.Just kidding! Simplest first step would be pull the transformer and check the internal fuse & quick check of secondaries w/AC voltmeter. Do you have a manual? you can download one here if you are a silver or gold member, or you can download for free @www.vinylengine.com. If I never touched your machine, I doubt that either fuse is blown. Part of my development has been becoming aware that when fuses blow there is a cause, and it is me. (I blew my transformer fuse checking the secondary voltages-quite simple really) But, especially with Dillen and others tutelage, whatever the problem is, it will be quite discoverable and correctable (did I mention Faith?)

I am also awaiting TT#3, which I bought on ebay for $71, to see if it's sensible to fix it or use it for spares. Dillens cap-kit arrived by post today for TT#2. Happly to report that 8000 CPU "can" works nicely in 8002. (8000 CPU in 8002 "can": NG for sure, tried that too). Played music all afternoon on #1 8002 with no spontaneous erection of tonearm! Kudos to Dillen and Auric for their support on and off this board, thankyou. Capacitor kit ordered for #2 8002. Incidently, I bid $30 on a damaged 8002 on ebay that needs a cover hinge, cartridge and keyboard. I bet I can fix it with my spare parts left over from an 8000 a friend gave me in pieces. An 8002 w/MMC 1 went to $705 today on ebay and it's reseve wasn't met! If anybody needs 8000 parts, let me know. I guess my trusty TX is available now, as well as a MMC20CL that looks nearly new and is in original box. I also have a radial arm TT (2000?) w/o cartridge free to anyone who can pick it up (northern NJ, USA) Thanks, Phil

Re: CPU needed for 8002

I've posted 2 replies to this post but neither has appeared; what's going on? Installed the 8000 "can" in the 8002 and all is well! Spent this afternoon enjoying music thru #1 8002 with #2s MMC 1 cartridge-marvelous, and no spontaneous erections of the tonearm. Cap kit #2 ordered for TT#2, aand I bid $30 on a beat-up 8002 on ebay that has broken cover and pushbuttons, no cartridge, but case is good looking. I bet I have enough parts/smarts to fix it cheap if I get it. I'm motivated-an 8002 w/MMC 1 failed to sell @$705 today because his reserve wasn't met! I've got 3 turntables and four cartidges. Anybody want a good TX? I also have most of an 8000 that was given to me in boxes (needed tacho whl). I've robbed the base and processor can, and the transformer and cartridge were missing. I also have a fairly new MMC 20CL if anybody's interested. Also a radial arm (2000?) w/out cartridge is free for the taking if anyone wants it (I'm in northern NJ, USA)

Kudos to Dillen and Auric for their most helful support both on this forum and off.

phil

Re: CPU needed for 8002

We are wiser and happy! I swapped the processor "can" from my parts 8000 into the 8002 and everything works great. My only concern is that I didn't replace the capacitor in the 8000 can-it went into the now unused 8002 can. I played music on the 8002 for several hours this afternoon with no spontaneus erections (of the tonearm). Thanks to all of you for your help, kudos to Auric and Dillen!

Paranthetically-most of the 8000 parts are available if anyone's interested. A friend gave it to me in pieces-it needed a tacho disc. However, I've swapped the base onto my 8002 because it was mint. The transformer and tonearm cover are missing as well as many small parts.

I also have very nice looking MMC 20CL in box. Phil

Re: CPU needed for 8002

Derek,

I never tried that either but since the processsor is basically the same, only the code differs, I suppose it wouldn't hurt anything to try.
