Very simple! I used masking tape to protect the stylus and the back of the cartridge and then simply used aluminium colour car spray paint. A couple of light coats seemed enough. I used transfers that I printed on my computer for the logo and then put a clear coat of matt lacquer over this. Took the masking tape off and finished. Not completely perfect if you examine it up very closely but at any distance more than a few inches, it looks fine! I would prefer one to be originally silver though!

Hi Peter

I'm seriously considering buying a SMMC 20EN but only if I can achieve a similar finish to the one you acheived. Can you describe how you did it?

Was the paint job a success? i could practice on my 20s which came with the deck.I see what you are saying.The sound smith 20en must be very good.Do you think they are worth the money?

No - the SMMC20EN is better than an original CL. I don't have a SMMC 20CL though I might get one! But they are expensive!

Thanks Peter,Are you saying your en is better than a soundsmith cl new! they are quite exspensive.Did you paint the black cl from soundsmith?I agree with you previous threads.Why do they make them in black,spoils the decks appearance.

As far as a CL is concerned, I would strongly consider getting a Soundsmith one. I have a number of good CLs and my SMMC20EN in my opinion, sounds better. The only problem is the colour! I didn't like the black so I painted mine silver!

Hi all Beo gram 4000 fans,I have after about 30hrs on and off finally restored my badly broken 4000 ( In transit) and it has been very worth while.It truely is fine example of engineering without compromise.I had to replace the tone arm and counterbalance,therefore many adj were reqd. many thanks to your website and members.I am playing with a mmc20en but look forward to hopefully getting a 20cl.

Hi,I've been repairing a 4000 which had broken arm mount in transit.I have aquired a broken deck for spares and replaced the tone arm I have completed a total mechanical service and lub according to the service manual.All mech functions are now working and i think there is light at the end of the tunnel.However,I was wondering how important the sve man decription of the shutter adj is.I find is difficullt to operate the servo for every rev of the platter( with belt removed) If anyone has made is adj and can advise.There is obviously the geometry to think of as the stylus tracks inward and the sve man does not go into detail on what is in my option is a painstaking adj...
