Hi Dave,

This is good news, nothing like having a great tech locally available.

As for the Vancouver Island techs, you were being most kind. They suck.

Locally it is better in the McIntosh world, but I still had to send my amp and pre-amp back to the factory in New York. Shipping alone one-way was $350!

I purchased a Beomaster 4500 on eBay to serve as a substitute for the McIntosh while it was in for repair…. In part because I am so delighted with my Beomaster 2400. Now with the BeoLink 1000 I may well just keep the 4500 and sell the McIntosh gear. (It has been repaired 6 times in the last year…all unsucessfully.)

Take good care of your techs and they will in turn take good care of YOU!

No worries Jeff. My tech in Ottawa has done three separate jobs on my bang product perfectly.

Hi Dave,

You really need to check out these Ex- Bang & Olufsen techs as all are not created equal. One such shop near Vancouver absolutely destroyed my Beogram 8000. The same shop that performed a decent, if simple repair on my much beloved Beogram 4004. (Go figure.)

A shop here in Victoria is even worse as they do minor damage each time they handle a piece of equipment, and I am convinced that they broke my 20CL cartridge.

If you find a great tech that lacks familiarity with B&O products you will find the service manual available here at BeoWorld to be invaluable! Even an Ex-B&O tech will appreciate the manual if they don't have one.

Thanks for the speedy reply. You guys are dead right. My electronic skills are quite limited. All I did was raised and lower the tone arm with the the control panel several times . Its 98% better. I do detect a hum from the unit at higher volume levels.

Unfortunately we don't have a Bang dealer in Ottawa anymore, but we do have a few ex bang techs in town.
I will send it in for some work. I love this turntable so much i really don't care what he will charge. I have a beogram 7000 in mint shape for a backup. The 7000 performs and sounds like a SACD. Unfortunately its not wood finished.

Martin is correct. When you take the metal panels off, you will be able to see the mechanism to damp the arm lower. this gets sticky with age and will need cleaning and relubricating. If you are not confident in pulling these decks apart, anmd the service manuals are on site, your dealer will often be happy to do this for you.

Supposing that the deck makes a clear click-sound from the solenoid
at the correct time for lifting but the actual lift is delayed, it's probably just a matter of lubrication.
Do a search on the fora, we've had this countless times on Beogram 4002/4004.

4004 adjustment

I finally hooked up my 4004 after moving a few years ago. the problem I'm having is that tone arm doesn't pick at the end of LP when it should. The needle stays down and the arm go back to the start. It drags the needle for about 1cm before it picks up. Is this a simple adjustment?
