Capacitors yes, they can never be ruled out.

Check for bad solders at the main PCB, especially around the edge of the board where the connectors are mounted.
Check also the little belt for the arm positioning (servo-) motor.
Make sure the threaded spindle is clean and lubricated.

I am always suspicious when people say things like 'cannot test because I have no LP's'. How much trouble would it be to borrow one, test it and sell if for a lot more money as tested and fully working?

My Beogram 8002 came with a Beomaster 6000 and a Beocord 8000 on qxl.dk (Danish Ebay kind of site).

I went with buy it now but non of it really worked.

Now its like so/so and the Beocord still needs new drivebelts. The old ones rotted away.

The seller had the stuff in his garage and never got around to put it together.

At the moment all 3 items are going to Martin so he can go through them all.

Hi Rob,

yep, by the description of the auction it sounds as though the seller knew exactly that it was a non starter. However all is not lost, as one of the main cause of problems amongst these turntables is aging capacitors which cause all kinds of strange problems. Member "Dillen" (martin) sells replacement capacitor kits for these - with easy to follow instructions if you are any good with a screwdriver and soldering iron and I'm sure he will be along shortly to offer his own far more succinct advice. A very nice deck and definately worth putting a little effort into as they don't make 'em like this any more.

If the turntable came with a working stylus/cartridge then you will probably be able to get most of your money back by simply selling that on ebay on its own depending on the model.

Sorry Rob I don't know much about this Beogram but I do know it looks gorgeous. I love the way the arms 'hide' in their little room when not in use.
Someone will surely be along shortly with a more technical reply, doesn't sound like it is a very expensive fix.

Beogram 6002

Greetings from the U.S.,

I purchased a Beogram 6002 turntable on ebay. As a hint/warning to others looking to ebay for a B&O deal, when the seller says, "Original owner says works fine, but item is being sold as is and has not been tested," and tellingly, "No returns will be accepted," in translation this means that the unit does not work. When I hit the start button the arm tracks out a-o.k., however when I hit stop it only goes so far to the right and stops before going into its docking area behind the aluminum panel. Also when stop is hit, the motor simply whirs and the platter continues to turn. The only way to stop it is to unplug it.

What I'm wondering is: Is it worth the effort and expense to have this unit repaired? I've reconciled myself to the fact that I was taken for $182.50 by either someone who truly didn't know anything was amiss, or someone who did know, gave adequate disclaimers in his item description, and just wanted to dump it on gullible jerk.
