Well, remember the relay grounds both channels when the deck is at rest, until the stylus touches down, so if it is the problem then it is stuck, not dirty!

One possibility is also a defective cartridge. Take it off and see if both channels buzz when you touch the contacts with some small screwdriver.

Good point about the relay! I should have said defective. This does happen with the later tangentials.

The OP has swapped cartridges and the problem remains. The solution must lie within the deck or the lead.

Also check on the solder joints at the DIN socket. On one of my BG one connection was cut off at the DIN, because some butcher had let the wires loose (they are normally secured to the chassis).

I have a Beogram 8000 that has no sound or very faint sound coming out of the right speaker channel of the main set of speakers. Sound from the left channel seems normal. I have tried to isolate where the problem is by checking the following:

1) I moved the 8000 over to another receiver and had the same result of no sound from the right channel, while the left was good.

2) I exchanged cartridges between the 8000 and a Beogram 4002 and played both on the same stereo system. The right channel sound was missing when using each cartridge on the 8000. Both cartridges worked fine on the 4002.

3) Hooked up the 8000 to two different stereo systems. No sound on the right speaker in either system. The 4002 performed normally on either stereo system.

4) Tested using two external phono preamps with each turntable to the same receiver. No difference between the two…the 8000 still had no sound in the right speaker while the 4002 had sound in both speakers.

5) Used a spare DIN to RCA cable on the 8000 with no difference.

It seems that the problem is within the 8000 unit. I would appreciate any assistance in identifying possible causes and troubleshooting the problem.
