How do i balance the arm

If you set the slider to zero and set it to play, the arm should have virtually no force on it and kinda float over the disc.

Consider that to be balanced and set the slider to 1-1.2g. If it's not OK and the stylus is clean (take the cart off and check it under magnification), then you probably need a cart.

If the arm isn't near balanced when set @0.0g and it wants to go up, then consider looking up the procedure for balancing it. (if it wants to go up, perhaps adjust the slider until it's balanced, then add 1.2g more to the amount it takes to balance it-that will be good enough to try it)

Assuming the stylus (needle) isn't worn, that's a sign that the rubber suspension is close to shot. I wouldn't increase the tracking force too much, or else it will start making its own grooves. Soundsmith can rebuild it, or sell you a replacement. Axel can also repair it by fitting a new cantilever/stylus to it.

There is a slide under the tone arm that alters the tracking weight. It should be about 1.2g for a MMC2 - the problem is whether it is accurate. For this you need a stylus balance - B&O used to supply these with new cartridges but these are rare! You can get new ones from Hi-Fi dealers but they are ridiculously priced. I would increase the tracking weight a little and see if the MMC tracks better.

NO! Tape a dime to the end of the tone arm.

Actually, you should ensure that the stylus is cleaned off well. If it is, then go thru the procedure for balancing the arm and then setting tracking force (1g). If that fails, then post to this community and someone will be along to help

MY MMC2 ON MY BEOGRAM 5500 PLAYS WITH DISTORTION,BUT WHEN I PUSH DOWN ON IT IT PLAYS FINE.

DO I NEED TO BUY A NEW SMMC2 OR CAN SOUNDSMITH REBUILD IY.
