I'll check out the capacitors...the burned out transistors happened a few years ago so are no longer an issue. What should the voltage across the solenoid terminals be?

Firstly, welcome to BeoWorld!

To deal with your problem, understand that these are not quick-fix units. But they were built to last a lifetime, so certainly worth restoring.

Take a look at one of the posts I've written on this model - http://forum.beoworld.org:80/forums/t/12646.aspx

More specifically, understand that transistors do not just blow willy-nilly, the underlying cause is usually bad capacitors, and these old BeoGrams are notorious for requiring a complete capacitor replacement - parts and advice right here.

For the solenoid not lowering (assuming that you've taken care of lubrication), it's probably a capacitor problem - not enough stored energy by the big power capacitors adjacent to the turntable motor at the front-left.

The problem is, the solenoid which raises and lowers the tone arm seems to have lost it's power.... and YES all the linkage is free and adequately lubricated. On the workbench the solenoid seems to work just fine when connected (quickly) to a 9 volt battery. What should the operating voltage be when it's installed ?

Any ideas anyone ?

Cheers, Mike
