I have not used Axel, but plenty have here. I have read nothing but good things about him/his work.

Your call with repairing/replacing your cartridge, but I would hate to see you waste the $, if it is not the cartridge.

Re: Beogram 4500... playback issue.

Thanks for the replys, and the cart offer! I have ruled out the mute switch in the deck, it is working properly. Looks like I will be buying a couple of cartridges to play with....and maybe sending the old one to be rebuilt, does anyone know the Axel site, do they speak English if I email them?

Could also be the mute switch in the deck!!!

Worth checking that first, before splashing out on a new cartridge.

Mute in the deck: Perhaps it can be exercised?

Agreed... consider my LINK to Soundsmith as research only... Don't spend any $ until your cartridge might be tested faulty.

Is the DIN line in good shape? Maybe something loose there?

Is the stylus guard completely out of the way -not contacting the record?

It seems like subtle bumps (door closing) can cause this...

Well, I am going to go out on a limb and suggest it could be the cartridge. At the least, it would be the first thing I would test.

I am running short on cartridges, but I will happily send one off to you for testing, unless a member in your vicinity might have one closer.

Its connected to a Beosound 9000. The 4500 has a RIAA built in. I just put on an album......nothing but static with the Beosound turned up fairly loud.... let it play for the whole album then a loud static "pop" and its fine, music playing.

The album ends, put on a new album and again.... static. The problem has happend several times over the last week but it has gotten far worse and and now rarley "pops" on.

Had the exact same setup!

As this is new to you... Might you have a spare cartridge to try? Sadly, NOS cartridges may be worse than one that has been lovingly used...

Where are you located?
