I developed this home-made non-electronic solution, for this common problem in this entire series of B&O turntables - you should have lots of patience to do it. If it is this problem, looking for a parts turntable won't help you - there's a good chance that the parts unit will have this same problem as well.

And if all else fails, send me your PCB for a rebuild.

Since I'm no good with repairing electronics myself it seems like I'd better start exploring the used B&O turntables market. Anyone got any idea what a Beogram 5500 might cost?

Re: Beogram 5500 problem

I believe this to be an electronic fault on the pcb. The last one that I saw which exhibited the same fault was cured by my fitting a replacement board from a cosmetically challenged turntable which I scrapped.

Welcome to Beoworld!

It sounds like a electronic failure. I am afraid that it could be difficult to fix. I have also had a 5500, it is a fine machine, and such failure is quite rare I think. I just don't know that much about these decks.

Everything works fine, apart from the record deck.
It doesn't react when i push the "turn", "lift", "play" or "stand by" buttons. When I press any of these buttons it just gives a soft buzzing sound for a few seconds, but then nothing happens.
When pressing the "play" button, the numbers telling what speed the turntable is turning at lights for a few seconds and then disappears.
The turntable itself starts spinning as soon as the power cord is connected, and won't stop until I pull it out.
It doesn't react to any commands from the MCP either.
Anyone got any idea about what could be wrong?
Thankful for any help.
/Dan, Stockholm, Sweden
