I really do not want to make things worse.

I will see if i can contact Tim Jarman as i am not too far from Farnborough

how much does he normally charge for this kind of thing?

Re: Beogram 4000 stylus to arm connection

Agree - you must check the continuity before any glue! Tim Jarman is in Farnborough and is good with these decks - you can contact him via Beocentral. He would rather see these before repair!

Re: Beogram 4000 stylus to arm connection

Don't start with glueing things if you don't even know yet where the fault exactly is!
I have already ordered a 5 pin DIN to put onto the cable, or do you think its best to remove the whole lead and connect straight to the transformer?

I had thought the same about the glue, i will try it. The wiring around the stylus looks fine, or did you mean perhaps the internal wiring being the cause?

I heard the deck before i picked it up and it sounded very good and i transported it very carefully so i would hope that the fault didnt pick up in transit.

I suspected that you would say the lid should sit on the wood surround, i think i was just hoping it would be a simple adjustment of the lid!

I am fairly adept to repairing the basics of electronics although i do understand that these machines can be very complicated. I am based in London, so if you have an recommendations for someone to look at it? I have bought replacement belts from Barry in east london, do you know if he would be able to anything?

I dont really want to spend hundreds getting it back if i can do at least most by myself.

I will try to glue it tonight and will tell you how it goes

thanks

This must have been an appalling moment for you. I would suggest that the lack of one channel will probably be the wiring - you need to continuity test the arm. If that is OK, you are very lucky. Parts for these are very tricky. I would use a two pack epoxy so the damn thing never moves again but others may suggest something else. Where are you based? I confess that I would probably get someone to fix this for you as these are immensely complex decks and it is likely to need some servicing anyway.

I wonder if it actually fitting together properly as the lid should rest on the wood surround - the plates can sit a little forward if not located correctly. I would also get the lead changed to a proper 5 pin DIN one - a fully wired Powerlink cable with the extra pins removed makes a reasonable cable as it has lots of shielding if you can't get an original.

Beogram 4000 stylus to arm connection

Hello,

Yesterday i picked up my first Beogram 4000 and carefully took it home at about 10 miles an hour all the way.

Disaster struck when i got home i noticed the stylus guard had fallen off and due to it just being glued on i thought i could remove the stylus and glue it back on myself.

This is when real disaster struck. As i pried off the stylus, the plastic arm that holds the sylus in place snapped. Fortunately i noticed this before pulling out all the wiring but it is broken.

i edged it back on to see if i had done any damage to the wiring and when it played back it was only playing through one channel. Is this a stylus issue? or maybe it has something to do with the rather poorly wired rca plugs that have been fitted?

So, firstly i need to ask if you know how to either replace the stylus holder or what glue is best to try and get it back to normal. I would prefer that if i glue it, that it can be as strong as originally.

I also noticed that the front of the lid seems to sit on the front of the auminium and not the wood. Around 5mm further back than i would expect. Although it seems to fit flush at the back, leading me to think i cant get any adjustment out of it.

Is this normal?

I can attch pics of any of these issues if needed.

Thanks in advance for any advice
