Sorted

It was the 7" tonearm set down adjuster cam which had snapped off (the drive cord/cable wraps round this and is part of the pully mechanism). Managed to drill & secure with a small crew from underneath. It was a right royal pain in the a**e though

that would be no problem at all. I live in Morley which is South Leeds and is very easily accessible via the M1 - M62 link road. I am about 1 mile from J28 of the M62.

I do know someone who visits Leeds regularly. If I can get them to co-operate and deliver the deck to you could you have a go at fixing it for me since you know what you're doing and have done it before (and I don't and haven't!!). I'd be more than happy to put it entirely in your hands - the worst that could happen would be that it remained broken! If you are prepared very kindly to assist I'd be very grateful..........I've really run out of options here other than throw it in the skip which I definitely don't want to do. Which part of Leeds are you in?

That's exactly the problem I mentioned.

You really need to manufacture another hook or peg on the tonearm carriage to reaffix the nylon line to. The original plastic hook has snapped off and there is no way of glueing it back on even if you still have it and it is quite difficult to see where this hook originally was. Then there is rethreading the nylon cord for which you really need the schematics. To be honest, even with the drawings it is pretty difficult to figure where the hook originally was. There is a thread on here somewhere with photo's of the repair but I can't find it at present.

If you lived a bit further North or know someone who visits Leeds regulary I could easily sort it for you. I wouldn't recommend posting it as these simply don't travel well at all.

Hi Ian,

yes I think this is just the part that was mentioned. The cable attaches to a small plastic peg in the arm carriage that seems to have a habit of snapping off. It was broken in my 7000 as well when I got it - see this thread for some ideas. It's really not a bad job, but definitely falls into the "tinkering" category.

Thanks very much indeed for the helpful replies which give me some hope that all is not lost! I am located in South Shropshire. The repair man (friend of a friend so hard to re-contact) has sent back a thin nylon cable about 2 feet long with loops at both ends, one attached to a spring. Maybe this is the nylon pully cable? He says something has snapped off inside which is why he couldn't fix it. Sorry I'm so technically inept but I just can't bear to junk my beloved deck so again any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Agreed - many problems can be solved with a bit of tinkering on these decks. They aren't the most complicated beasts B&O ever made. A common problem with a non tracking arm is the nylon pully cable fixing point on the arm carriage snaps off which is a fairly straightforward fix.

And there are of course some problems that can be fixed with persistent tinkering & handywork, while a service guy running by the hour would just say "I need a new part". But yes, we still need to know which part!

I've had a Beogram 3300 record turntable from new since 1987 (Type 5931) (Serial No 05021793). It now doesn't work. The arm won't track across to the edge of the record. My local repair man has taken it to pieces and says it needs a new part (don't know which one). B & O at Shrewsbury (my nearest town) say parts for this model cannot now be obtained. Can this be true??? Does anyone know where parts and/or repair could be found? Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks.
