I agree a video would be great, but I don't have a proper camera... the phone makes useless videos. Anyway, I took some pictures and will start a new thread with them for future reference.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a good pictorial on how the aluminum plates come off & on. It's not difficult but not quite intuitive either. Unless someone else has such pictures already I might do it in the morning, I have some business to do inside my Beogram anyway...

Mika, you could upload a video (made with a camera) on youtube about opening the 6000.....

The control plate on the 4000 is the one to remove before shipping - or tape it well down. It is a flat aluminium plate - quite heavy and only held on by a couple of copper springs.

To get the top plates off a Beogram 6000, pull the wooden surround forward. You may need to pull from the back forward. This realeases the top plates. To remove the control panel, lever the speed display up and there is a screw below which when released allows the panel to be taken off. It really is very easy - I completely disassembled my 6000 and, more impressively, put it back together again! And I have two hands of thumbs! The service manual is on site.

I don't think you need to do that - just make sure it doesn't come loose. If you know the structure of these turntables, the key point is that they come apart once the wooden frame slides to the front - not a single screw to open... It must be secured so that this doesn't happen in transit. I would probably wrap some sheet plastic around the plinth (under the lid) and then apply packing tape over that. Additionally, the tone arm should be supported with something like a suitably cut styrofoam block under it and taped over to prevent it from moving. Transport screws of course fastened as well.

But absolutely have the platter (and the subplatter, if you happened to get a model with one) removed and packed separately! Preferrably under the turntable so it will have no chance in h*ll to bang on the lid and/or the tone arm.

And congratulations with your purchase! I have a BG6000 and I'm very happy with it. The CD4 decoder doubles as an excellent RIAA amp, probably much better than the built-in amps in most later Beograms and Beomasters. Plays just great in stereo.

I like the 6000 - an interesting deck! You will need the Beomaster 6000 next! The keypads are one reason I prefer the 4000. However you can make these look better. Essentially, give it a good clean and then mask it off very carefully and spray it. I would then spray it with a satin lacquer or the paint flakes off. My 4001 was once a 6000!

...well it happened that, waiting for a 4000, I bought a beogram 6000. Is there any particular thing I have to say to the sender of this turntable ( apart the usual reccomendetions). Is there anything about the control panel?

You can of course remove the CD4 board - I have done so with mine as someone wanted it!

It works fine in stereo - you cannot exclude the CD4 but apart from the fact that the output is at line level, this is no problem. It is best to set the switch to off as otherwise the CD4 decoder tends to switch in and out even with stereo records. The MMC3000 would be a very odd fitting and this will not produce a CD4 output , but is OK for stereo - I would suggest having it retipped by Axel who could uprate it to a better spec as well as changing the suspension, which will be very old.

The way the BG6000 produces quad sound is by sending the rear two channels through the two unused pins of the 5 pin DIN plug. As only the BM6000 and 3400 have connections to these pins, you can simply ignore this. The only possible problem will be using a Tape input where the two pins are actually the connections for the input to the tape - never had a problem myself but I suppose theoretically there could be some issues.

is a beogram 6000 a quadrafonic system only or can it be used as a stereo system?

Can the cd4 demodulator be excluded?

Is a riiaa included?

Can the control pad be restored if worn?
