Hi Loris,

that's weired! May be, this fails more often. I had a totally broken bearing at a BG of a friend of mine and I fixed it with superglue. Works very good, because it creeps between the metal parts but let it harden for several houres (not seconds).

the arm doesn't lower. It goes till the end of the record and then comes back.

What kind of grease should I use ( easily available on ebay or italian shops ) instead of the reccomended Barrierta L5512? ( I couldn't find it on the internet. I just found the L55/2)

Actually I use a Beogram 4004 with my Beomaster 5500 all the time! I have never liked the light weight decks and I prefer the sound I get from the earlier cartridges. You have the clean the record each time so the lack of remote control is not a problem. Besides,it looks so much nicer!

Tend to agree that these decks are very lightly built. You need a Beogram 4000 - that is proper engineering!

well I checked and:

the bearing spindle has teflon inside, so there is metal on teflon

it's the subplatter that goes up and down

the bearing spindle moves, I uploaded a video on youtube:

so maybe you can tell me how to fix it.

I have to check if the platter is slightly bent and I also checked the 5005 instructions: some oil is needed in the spindle. I guess that metal on/in metal produces some vibration. The other turntables spindles are much more sophisticatd that the 5005 one. Maybe everything works fine and there are no audible effects, but this turntable, in comparison to my Pink Tringle PTTOO sems a toy:-)

Hi Loris,

the sub-platter has three points where the upper platter sits on. You can place some felt or cardboard on one of these, which is the lowest. I think, there will be no need for lubricating.

Thanx Peter. Actually I don't know if this problem has audible effects because the stylus tip misses the pin. I hear music but there's a lot of noise. I thought it was a springs regulation problem. Anyway everything is seated properly. Even if everything works fine, should I lubricate some part of the turntable? Should I put some oil in the bearing spindle?

I see what you mean but does it cause any audible problem? It looks very minor. I think these later decks had very thin platters and yours appears to have a slight bend. Check the platter is sitting properly on the subplatter though and that the black plastic card is seated properly.

Hi all,

at last I have a working beogram 5005 ( except the cartridge). I bought another one one month ago but it arrived broken, and I sent it back ( hope to have a refund).

This 5005 works well except, as I wrote, the cartridge that is broken, but luckily a friend of mine will go to New York and I have arranged a delivery of a smmc4.

What I noted about this 5005 is that if I look at the plate from the front, it goes slightly up and down. Is there a way to fix the problem?
