Thanks for the reply. I will be getting my 4004 back from the repair shop tomorrow. I will give the cartidge I have a shot.. but I was wondering if you know how I could tell if it was damaged? Would it just sound horrible? I am a bit worried about damaging my records, as I heard from someone that you could have a damaged stylus and not even notice it, but it is actually tearing apart your records.

Unfortunately here in India I cannot find any Soundsmith products. Also is the starting price upwards of USD $200 for replacement cartridges? How long would one last? The one I have is over 20 years old, and I don't even know if it's used/unused.

Thanks!

Should be a MMC20EN or if you are lucky, a MMC20CL. If you need a new one, you will need to get a Soundsmith cartridge - no-one else makes one that fits. I use a SMMC20EN in my 4004. I painted it silver to match the arm as they are black normally!

Hope everything works - Welcome to Beoworld.

Beogram 4004 - Newbie!

Hi Everyone

I recently found my dad's old Beogram 4004 record player lying in storage, and i don't believe it's been used for over 2 decades! I tried turning it on, but it would just make a whirring sound and not do much else. I have sent it in for repairs, and it should be fixed soon. My question, however, is about the stylus. There is already one on there, which is removable, and there is also a spare one in a case. Now it's been many years, and we live in Mumbai which is a very humid city, so I'm not sure how the stylus' would have held up. I will be checking them out in a few days, but if i were to replace the stylus, could I put a generic one on there or would i need to purchase only a B&O stylus?

I have only recently begun listening to and collecting records. I have a Numark portable record player that I bought just to get the hang of it, but I would love to be able to use my dad's old 4004.. as I think it would breathe new life into my records.

Thanks
