these prices are good if everything is in good working order & decent cosmetically. You won't get any warranty anywhere on this vintage of equipment to be honest. I would happily pay that if they are as described. Check out as many functions as you can before parting with cash.

Although they are 20 year old they were very well designed & built so you shouldn't have too many problems. The good news is they are repairable at component level so any future problems shouldn't be too expensive to put right. There may be a problem with the muting relay which is fairly common with these so check this out and you may be able to negotiate a few dollars reduction if it doesn't work. Mine doesn't on my BM5500 but it doesn't bother me. If you need to temporarily mute the sound simply pressing "stop" on the remote will do the same job in effect when listening to a non-radio source. Or turn it off if you are listening to the radio.

I could do with some more advice on an amp for my rx2. I've been looking for beomaster 5000 and 5500's as you suggested - and to be honest, i really do value the aesthetics more than i realized - so I think I've set my heart on finding one of those. I've been watching some 5000's go by on ebay, and this morning there is a beomaster 5500 for $150 and a beolink for $65 in the "buy it now" section? (whatever). Do you think this would be a good move? - the seller claims the items are in good working order, although there is a no refund policy. On the bright side, it would take me 30 minutes to drive to pick them up.

Do you think I should just continue to be patient and hope for a lower price ? - i can be very patient.

thanks!

both are very good amps but don't be put off if you find a different manufacturers model which suits your needs & budget. Heaven knows there are plenty out there, some better than B&O & some not as good.

Please keep in touch if you need further advice on amp choice & setting up this TT whatever you decide.

Thanks for responding to my questions - i appreciate having someone offer some advice!

I hadn't really thought about trying to use all B&O items - I've been so excited to finally get my hands on a turntable, that i haven't even thought that much about putting together an entrie system. I think I'll try to track down a Beomaster 5000 or 5500 - that seems like the smartest place to start!

are you looking to use all B&O items? If so then the tuner/amp to go for is either the Beomaster 5000 or 5500. Both of these are very well matched cosmetically (the RX2 will stack directly on top and has the same footprint) and both have inbuilt RIAA so no need to fit an exrternal one.

The 5000 has a drop down flap revealing manual buttons but can only be controlled with the terminal 5000 or MCP5000 whereas the 5500 has very limited manual operations but has the bonus of being controllable with a Beolink 1000 which is a far better remote and will control a whole B&O AV system making it far more future proof. Both have plenty of inputs - both DIN & RCA - are very versatile and can be bought very reasonably, but the 5500 would be by personal choice due to it being newer.

thanks for the scoop on setting up the tracking force! I've got my fingers crossed that the cartridge it came with will work for the time being anyways.

i'm looking at setting up a system from scratch. i'd like to get the turntable up and running for now, and will then look at upgrading when i graduate from school in the spring and have a real job and disposable income. i'm waffling between headphones or second hand speakers - and then need the bits that go between them and the turntable. can you make any recommendations on which would be the best way for me to go? - i've been perusing the forum, but haven't quite found the advice i'm looking for. thanks!
