Some decks are even capable of tracking outwards (!)

There's an adjustment to check on page 4-6 in the service manual (type 5215) but of course a fault in the corresponding electronic circuits could also cause this problem. I have a few problems with a beogram 4000 which I just purchsed. I have got the Beogram 4000 working and solved quite a few problems with the tone arm, sluggish mechanism etc. The arm now lowers and pops up when I press the buttons under the Aluminium plate which I took off because the up and down bottons didnt work. When I took this plate off the buttons were pretty much jammed down, I guess with age. I slowly teased at these buttons with tweezers and they one by one popped up and all are operating again.

The main problem is that the tone arm lowers as it should but seems to continue tracking across the deck, sort of slowly skating along, I have lubricated some of the parts and I am generally cleaning as I go along. have you any idea what I can tackle to get the tracking on track? It is a lovely machine that I hope I can get back to its former glory.

Thanks

Kevin

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

Kevin:

Waaaay beyond my experience but if you need the cartridge let me know

Neither doi i !

With this "experiment" i was hoping to continue learning more about it

Thanks for the offer Kevin, appreciated.

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

Waaaay beyond my experience but if you need the cartridge let me know

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

Thanks Kevin,

that's something i can work with !

Crisper sound is what i'm after.

My idea is to connect the BG4002 to a Luxman valve amplifier

and Floating Synthese 1 speakers.

For years i've been asking my father, trying to convince him to sell them to me !

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

I find the whole sound crisper and with my BG4000 the bass is still there. It gives a whole new feel to an LP but does pick up the blemishes more. If I remember a post Peter made on the last forum this is down to the needle getting deeper into the groove.

I do have one on a second deck which you could try out. I suspect though the best solution would be a soundsmith since the bargains on these (possibly due to Beoworld) are few and far between and they are OLD! What soundsmith have done with the mc4 seems to have surpassed the original so the mmc20 would one would hope be just as good.

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

Kevin:

The MMC20CL is better IMHO

Thanks Kevin, are the differences noticeable in the higher frequency range ?

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

The MMC20CL is better IMHO

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

Thanks ipaul and Craig for your input.

The current stylus MMC20EN, how "good" is it ?

I looked up the information from the Products list:

The MMC20EN was the standard cartridge fitted to the top of the line Beogram 4002 and 4004.

How do i interpret "standard cartridge" and "top of the line",

would you recommend this stylus or a different one for the BG4002 ?

Thanks !

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

Ignace:

Hi all,

Regarding the stylus for BG4002,

currently, there is a MMC20EN on the BG4002 (not tested yet) .

As my BG6500 has a MMC2, i was wondering if it would be suitable/wise to place it in the BG4002.

What would you do /suggest ?

Thanks for your input !

Ignace, as pointed out your MMC2 will not fit. The MMC20 range fit on the ens of the arm as such. If you look at your BG6500 it fits underneath the arm. The fittings as such are comletely different, and as Paul also points out. Any of the MMC20 range will fit, I use to use an MMC20S on my BG4002.

Craig

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

As far as i know MMC5-1 range won't fit into the older cartridge: mmc4000 was original and replacement mmc20's fit.....

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

Re: Parts for Beogram 4002

Thanks for the update Ignace, it's always nice when people show their appreciation

I hope it does the job for you, it came from a turntable that did work until the tonearm cartridge mount broke away.
