Ok a good thing Dillen got both of mine back nearly as new.

The Beogram 8002 have been playing for 1 year since he looked at it and it works brilliantly like new.

The Beogram 6006 have been playing for 3-4 months just as good. It came with MMC20EN in great condition but I use it as a spare.

The 8002 has a cheap plastic rear and the spring can vause the plastic to break once it ages. The arm cover and platter surround are held by foam tape which degenerates with time and the service position involves disconnecting the spring hangers which are horrid little hooks compared to those in the 4000 series. Interestingly the motor is also not that strong - when tested even a dust bug had an effect on speed.

It is however still a great deck - I have one!!

The 6006 is to all intents identical to the 8000 - it did come as standard with a 20EN and B&O put it about that the 8000 had selected parts compared to the 6006 but having had both, I doubt this is true. Of course it does have black buttons as well!

What kind of aspects and build quality issues with the Beogram 8002?

I use Soundsmith SMMC2 on mine and its very good.

I use a B&O MMCL on my Beogram 6006.

The sound is pretty identical between the 2.

How do you rate the Beogram 6006?

I agree completely with you. The Beogram 8002 is probably the last deck that really impresses me. Even that has issues with certain aspects of build quality though the one I have seems to be a particularly good one. The MMC20EN is a very good reliable performer though the CL in a good warm room does have a certain extra flair. The one I really used to like was the MMC6000 which has a slight rise to the top end and which performed beautifully as a stereo cartridge. Unfortunately they seem very fragile and every stylus I have seen has shown marked signs of wear now.

The Soundsmith cartridges are most impressive and interestingly the diamond is set at 45 degrees to the normal B&O cartridges and the diamond is also far smaller in width. I would love to try a Voice sometime but fear that I cannot really justify such an expense without a suitable deck to use it with. Frede is getting a custom SP2 made for me at present with an elliptical diamond. I will give more details when I have it as well as a review.

The 20EN was my favourite overall of that generation (the CL I have is very refined though, but needs a warm room now it's getting on in years, despite being practically "new").

Of the later ones, the MMC4 was a good all-rounder but again, the 2 and 1 had something in terms of refinement. I'd personally say that you needed a "universal bracket" and an "audiophile separates" turntable/arm system for these latter cartridges to give of their very best, as Beograms of this era were getting a bit frail in internal construction under the lovely styling, sadly (lots of wafer thin plastic to resonate and possibly mask the differences in replay quality).

Yes,

all of this type of cartridge are interchangable. Only the tracking force my need adjusting to the correct spec'. Recommended tracking force/stylus pressure can be found HERE

So are spade connect cartridge interchangeable with Beo? I have a 1700 with a bad (I think) MMC20EN. Could that be replaced with any of the spade type beo cartridges?

No, the MMC20** range (&MMC10E) have a totally different fitting - spade on the tonearm as opposed to pins on the MMC1 - 5 range.

The same applies to the MMC3000/4000/5000 & 6000 - all spade connectors.

The only cartridges that will fit are MMC1,2,3,4 &5's

e.g. : Can I mount a MMC20EN to a Beogram 7000 instead of a MMC2 ?
