I just had another Beogram 1000 for repair... it wasn't running at all! This was the later type with the black plastic speed selector (with no text for 78 rpm even it is selectable). I took the whole motor - speed adjustment block out and disassembled completely. There is harden lubricants everywhere inside so you have to clean every single axis and moving part. Takes time but makes it work.

Another thing related to this topic. The one I cleaned is working, but it won't get to the right speed. The stroboscope stripes run counter-clockwise and the adjustmenter knob makes it just run faster. I had some washers left over so I guess it's the cause. Where should those be situated? Seems like the whole rotorpulley would be too low/high but I didn't took it off so it should be fine.

Yes, the "warm-up" symptom confirms the diagnose of dried lubricants in the bearings.

I too have just aquired a Beogram 1000 which has been in storage and appears to have this problem.

It is in its original box and has all of the paperwork and a guarantee. Wonder if the local B&O dealer will honour it !!! Might just try for the crack.

I have decided the problem is dry bearings for the following reasons:-

It has been in storage for ages and shows very little sign of wear (it looks brand new inside, no dust, etc), so the bearings shouldn't be knacked
The belt shows no sign of slackness
The unit starts slow but after a few minutes it reaches full speed and never misses a beat, therefore the motor can't be knackered.

Before I start stripping down, bearing in mind I paid £140 for this baby, can anybody confirm I am on the right tracks.

You will have to remove the brass motor pulley, it's a press fit on most models. It will sometimes help if you rotate the pulley on the motor shaft as if it had a normal threading and pull at the same time. Note it's position on the shaft and try to put it there again.

Hi!

I just acquired a Beogram 1000 that has been sitting in storage for 20 years. Naturally the motor has seized up and from other threads I learned that the bearings need to be cleaned and soaked in hot oil. The bottom bearing is easy to remove, but how is the top bearing removed? It is the round motor version.
