I should have put this thread in the vintage components forum...I think the BeoMaster is the problem and needs service. I did get the BeoGram to have a weak signal when going through another input and having the CD 5500 disconnected (currently I only have an RCA cable for that one). It seems like a couple of the inputs don't work, and I've noticed that when I play a cd, the signal goes through even if I change the sources on the BeoMaster. I found an authorized shop not too far from me:

So it looks like I'll be without a stereo for a while. :(

No - the 2 extra pins have absolutely no affect on the input of sound signals.

Try plugging the turntable into one of the tape or the CD inputs and see if any sound comes through (it will be very very low so you may need to crank up the volume). This will go some way towards identifying where the problem lies. My initial suspicion is the phono input socket or the RIAA.

BTW, you won't be able to buy the pins easily but I can let you have one for free as and when you get the sound problem sorted. Only one is actually needed but sod's law says you screw it into the wrong hole 1st time up

I don't have the remote unfortunately; need to be on the lookout for that. Good to know that it eats batteries - impressive for using four 'D' type!

Argh...I still cannot get the turntable to play through the receiver. Is it possible I need the two other pins to generate sound? I need to buy a datalink cable for the CD5500 anyway...might be time for some ebaying since my local dealers don't seem to have anything I can use.

Very nice amp is the 5500, one of my favourite Beomasters due to the plethora of connections both DIN & RCA which makes it very versatile. Do you have a Beolink1000 remote? If not then I would advise getting one for everyday use as the MCP is quite cumbersome and eats batteries.

Thanks so much guys. I will give it another go when I get home from work! I'll happily buy spare pins to make this work. The system sounds quite good...more midrange detail than the Denon receiver and cd player it's replaced. :)

If the datalink pins are missing then your Beogram won't be able to comand the Beomaster to select phono. Vice versa, by selecting phono with your mcp 5500 it won't automatically initiate play on your beogram. Have you tried selecting phono then starting your beogram manually? compatibility should definately NOT be a problem.

Let me know the outcome of playing your deck manually and if you need a datalink pin I may have a spare one.

It should work fine though to get remote control you need another pin in the DIN plug - there should be 7 pins - the bottom two unscrew.

Hi Marshall, and a warm welcome to Beoworld.
I can't see any reason why these would not work together, The Beogram doesn't have a RIAA built in, and the Beomaster does.
They both have Data link so should be no problem.
Having said that, I don't have either so there may be something that I have overlooked.
Someone with a bit more hands on experience will surely correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello all.

Newbie here, but I've owned a BeoGram 2000 for ten years or so. I recently picked up a BeoMaster 5500, Beogram CD 5500, and MCP 5500, and I'm having trouble getting the 2000 to work. I'm not sure if they are not compatible, or if I'm connecting it improperly (or both!). I bought the 5500 due to the built in phono preamp. The 2000 has a 5 pin cable; it has an attachment to change that to an RCA. I tried using both, to no avail...then when I disconnected the RCA cable, I broke one of the wires! So if I need to use it, there is some soldering (or ebay-ing) in my future.

The 2000 worked fine with my previous setup, and the CD 5500 works fine with the BeoMaster. Any insight? I'm sure this has been asked, but I haven't been able to find an answer. I don't have a manual (maybe I should upgrade my membership), so I'm pretty lost.
