Hi Dave,

I've had a root around at home but the item I have is from a Beogram TX and is no use to you - sorry

The sub platter from the following beograms will all fit your BG2000 if you come across a scrap one:- BG1800, 5000, RX, RX2 (all the same basic model as yours from the 1980's), any of the 1980's tangential tracking decks and also the Beocenter 2200.

Thanks for the info, I will se what its set at and follow the excellent instructions in the link. iI you do have a spare hub and spring knocking round, I would be glad to take it off your hands, I'm on the other end of the M62, by the way, in Widnes.

Hi Dave,

in that case you are doing the correct thing. I may have another subplatter with the plastic hub intact if you want it - I'll have a look if you want.

The recommended tracking force for the MMC4 is 1.2 g but if the cartridge is aged it may need to be set a bit higher than this but anything over 2.0 g could have a detrimental affect on your vinyl.

HERE'S how to set the tracking force correctly.

Thanks Chris the mystery is solved re the arm coming down on the platter. I lost the spring out of the central bit ages ago when I took the platter off. The plastic lugs on the bottom then made a clicking noise when the tuntable was spinning so I broke them off as I figured I didnt play singles so would not need the centre to pop up DOH!!!!! I will have to leave a disc on now I suppose.

The cartridge is the MMC4

Hi Dave & welcome to beoworld.

Answer to question 1 is - no the stylus will (should) not be damaged. The black round plastic hub in the centre of the platter is connected to a sfety device and will raise upwards if no record is on the deck and automatically stop the tone arm from proceding to where the edge of the record would be.

Q 2. The close proximity of the cartridge body to the playing surface isn't unusual but how close it should be is something I would need to see for myself to give an informed judgement. If it is an original B&O cartridge then it is possible that the suspension is on its way out and will cause this gap to be smaller than it should be. What cartridge model do you have as the tracking force varies between models?

Hi I'm new here and have a few questions about the Beogram 2000. I have it connected to a Beomaster 2000 Reciever via the 7 pin din cable so it is controlable from the Beomaster. The problem is that if I press the phono switch on the amp by accident the turntable fires up and goes into play mode and if there's no record on the turntable will the stylus come into contact with the turntable and get damaged? I keep a record on the turntable at all times because of this and was wondering if its a fault with mine and should there be a safety device on the Beogram 2000 that stops the arm lowering on to the platter when no record is present? I am too scared to try it and see in case the diamond rips out of the stylus on the platter so I keep a record on at all times as said.

The other question is to do with the distance of the cartridge from the surface of the record when playing. Mine seems very close to the point that the cartridge body seems to be touching the record surface. If I adjust the weight so there is more of a gap, then the stylus doesn't enter the groove fully and the sound is distorted, theres no in-between, its either fully down or not down far enough. Is it just that the tension has gone out of the stylus with use or is this normal. It sounds fine, by the way when playing records.
