Don't be fooled by the price though, by the time you add carriage and taxes it is close to $200

Re: Beginner with a TX2

Thanks Peter and Graham for your replies... Bummer it's so expensive to replace! I'm not at home right now, so I can't get a photo until sometime next week.

In case I have to buy a new cartridge, I checked out the site that Graham sent. Is this what I should be looking at buying? http://www.sound-smith.com/cartridges/bosmmc4.html
The cartridge I currently have says "MMC4". Does the "S" in "SMMC4" just imply that it is SoundSmith's brand of the original?

Also... on to my next question: How should I be connecting the record player to speakers? The record player came with a little box with in/out audio jacks. I don't have it in front of me right now, but I think it says that it's a "pre-amp". Do I just hook this up to my stereo system?

Thanks for all your help!

I just joined yesterday, and put my introduction at the general forum page (http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/thread/133780.aspx). The gist of it is that I found a TX2 on the curb, and I don't know what's wrong with it. Although I have a number of records, I know very little about record players (so I apologize in advance for using non-technical terms). Hopefully, I'll be able to enjoy records on this player soon!

Here is my first problem...

The arm seems to cause the record to "skip", even though the record plays fine on another record player. I made a little video showing what happens. The song is Tommy James and the Shondells' "Crimson and Clover", so as you'll hear, it doesn't get very far. I should also note that I haven't hooked up the player to speakers, so the sound is simply the needle on the record.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3933486091603946346

Thanks in advance for all your help!

-ThaiBinh
