You certainly got a good price on that turntable

Have you tried a new main belt? It the slowing down is gradual and more related to playing time than the exact arm position, you might just have a loose belt which begins to slip when it warms up. Other than that, I can't think much else than maybe the arm carriage or its wiring harness is touching the platter somewhere and braking it.

BeoGram 4004 speed problem ...

Hello,

I wonder if any of you knowledgeable folks could advise me on this weird problem on my BeoGram 4004 turntable. I know nothing of this unit's history -- I bought it at a thrift store for $5, and have been restoring it on and off for a while. The latest problem it's giving me has to do with speed.

Basically, when I play a 33&1/3 12" record, everything is great until the needle progresses to roughly where the edge of a 7" record would be, at which point the speed drops slightly. Musically it's about 3 half-steps, just enough to be really jarring. The record continues to play at that speed until the end, and there are no other "problems" besides that one, at least not that i've discovered yet.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any tips on how to debug this would be most appreciated.

Thanks much,

-mykle-
