Just to share a similar experience:

My BG8000 initially worked fine after a full re-cap, but recently the platter would no longer start. When pressing the 'play' button it would just produce a humming sound.

This weekend I took the time to disassemble the unit again, re-solder all the connections on the main board, in particular the ones near the power transformer looked suspect, and re-assembled it. To my absolute joy the machine now works brilliantly!

I completely understand your frustration.

One more thing; Check the cables from the tacho sensor and that the sensor is in it's correct position.

Your Beogram 4000 is most welcome here. I can service 110-120V units, no problem. If you ship the 8000 board with the BG4000, I will take a look at it too.

Just a quick codicil. My last message could easily be mistaken for a lack of gratitude on my part, which is not the case.

I am merely exhausted from my attempts to resurrect my Beogram 4000, adjusting the Beogram 4002, and now this backwards turning platter on the Beogram 8000 and blinking lamp….. unexpected and unwelcome.

BUT that does not mean that I do not appreciate all your efforts on my behalf, because I sincerely do.

The 4002 can and will be repaired. The last adjustment to the senor lamp was successful for a time, but I believe it may have slipped, and now the tonearm drags the needle across the entire record.

I will likely take a good look at your list of suggestions for the 8000…. eventually, but the Beogram 4000 will undoubtedly be heading your way in the coming months. I will get your address and advise prior to shipping the 4000.

Martin,

My frustration level with this Beogram 8000 has reached the point where it is best left alone for a while.

Five plus hours to VERY carefully install your cap kit have rendered this turntable useless.

Needles to say, the problem is not the fault of your fine kit, but something has occurred to make the platter rotate backward with the platter in place.

Plug in the turntable and the platter rotates backwards and the sensor lamp blinks.

Two friends have insisted that something is backwards most likely dealing with the power supply, but I didn’t do anything with the power supply.

I am sure that when the dust settles I will have another go at it, but right now the 8000 has joined the 4000 and 4002 in the non-working category.

Jeff,

1. Doublecheck all the caps.

2. Check for cracked solders, especially at the connectors along the edge of the board and in the power supply connector/rectifier diodes areas and where the ribbon cable from the CPU casing is soldered into the main board. Resolder them all even if they look fine.

3. Make sure you established the connection at the back of the main board as shown in the instructions.

The turntable can start rotating backwards if powered on without the heavy platter simply because of the braking power. Never judge a Beogram of this type without a platter.

Hi Martin,

An extra careful install of your fine capacitor kit and 5 hours later all I managed to achieve was the platter turns backwards the minute the plug is inserted to the receptacle and the B&O lamp on the sensor arm blinks. No other functions work, including stop.

I hasten to say that I am sure the fault lies with me as I must have done something wrong, but at this point, I have no idea what.

None the less I feel as if I am operating under some great gypsy curse with 4 out of 5 turntables non-operational.
