Well I took the plunge and purchased a very handsome, professionally rebuilt Beogram 8002 and am completely delighted. This unit is absolutely silent in all regards, including when the solenoid engages and the tonearm drops.

This Beogram 8002 came with a nice MMC3 cartridge which is not a good as the MMC1, but sounds beyond acceptable.

Definitely a fine additron to the "collection."

There are several resonance frequencies in a grammophone/pickuparm/cartridge assembly but one of them is around 10 Hz +/-. All records has got a few bumps making the arm moving up and down and the optimal resonance frequency should therefore lie between 10 to 12 Hz. I seem to remember that the new arm and lower weight of the cartridge itself much improved the frequency of this resonance. If I am not mistaken this was the real bonus of having a proprietary design of the arm and cartridge making it possible keep the needle in the groove with as low stylus pressure as possible and thereby reducing distortion and as a side effect prolonging the life of the stylus and your records.

Martin,

I did a quick check of my Beogram 4000 and it does not have the holes for these tiny pads.

However my Beogram 4004 has these tiny pads still in place.

My Beogram 4002 and Beogram 8000 both have the holes in the dust cover, but no pads.

Jeff,

I don't recall ever seeing little rubber pads under the lid but check the parts list in the service manual. I am not at home right now so can't do so myself.

I prefer the 8000 because I prefer the MMC20CL cartridges - I know some people prefer the MMC1-5 ones though! However there really isn't a lot in it!

Sorry to be a “pest” however I would like to know if there are “pads” available for the dust cover of a Beogram 8000.

Further, I truly am interested if there is any reason to purchase a Beogram 8002 over a Beogram 8000. From what I can see it is more style than real substance.

Speaking of the lid, my Beogram 8000 has two molded holes, undoubtedly for some sort of dampening pad for when the cover is closed.

Does anyone know if this is correct and it these pads are available?

Soundwise the 8002 does seem to get the edge in my opinion and it has less crackles and pops. Yes the platter is different, so are some of the electronic's, the taco. Both had the remote control option and are weighty. There is probably more. Is the cartridge that different betwwen the MM20CL and the MMC2?

A lot of the 8000's were trashed until recently when Martin solved the tacho disk problem not sure if they have other issues..

I think it was a reasonable update for the time that suited engineering and marketing. Pity they forgot about the clasp on the lid.

Out of sheer curiosity are there any noteworthy improvements on the Beogram 8002 as compared to the Beogram 8000?

I know that the 8002 will play a record over 9 times as compared to twice for the 8000; the 8002 has an arguably jazzier platter and takes the new line of styluses.

However these are the only differences that I see. Have I missed something or was the 8002 more about marketing than substance? (Excluding the cartridge.)
