Got a 4002 that up until recently was working fine. Had a small problem with the stylus arm lowering and raising too slowly so used a drop of lubricant to loosen it up. That worked but now the turntable doesn't recognise that there's a record on the platter and simply runs the arm to the end of its path and then returns to off. I know the light is working on the sensor arm but don't know where the light is picked up from. Any ideas welcome.

Hi Beoworld,

Always loved the beautiful design and engineering of the B&O

Several week ago I did buy a not working Beogram 6006 to find out how I could fix it.

You know, my wife did want to get rid of our LP collection, and I didn't. So I went out to find that fantastic disc player.

But fixing was not so easy because it was not the belt, the seller was saying.

But I did find another Beogram 6006 in good working order.

So the record collection stays.

Next step is to fix the other 6006 with the caps-kit and the rvs tacho; and when succeeding give the working one the same treatment.

Martin Dillen did send me, to day, the 2 sets and I love to do the job.

Thank you Martin.

I will let you know my experiences.

Best wishes to all,

I have a strange question. Im a happy owner of a 1st pressing of a Black Sabbath Vol 4 record however it has a MAJOR bump/jack in on one side. I have a few times played it with my MMC2 but everytime I qrinch and feel very sad for my MMC2 since its make very hard "knocks" til it has passed the area, it never skips tho, only sounds alot.

How bad is this for the MMC2? I dont sound very good for the pickup but am I just "sensitive"?

2. Shibata with sapphire cantilever

3. Nude Line with aluminum cantilever

4. Nude Line with original sapphire cantilever

I have just bought my second Beogram 4000. It worked good after a good clean, but it began to act strange after correcting the tracking weight.

When I press "on", the arm carriage will move about 0,5 cm and slowly move back to resting position. I can press the < which moves it towards the center of the platter but only in slow mode. I can press > and make it move faster towards resting position. I can't lower the arm anywhere. It basically works like the following scenario: It's like the > button is depressed a little (slow movement mode) which disables the arm lowering function. Could my fiddling with the tracking weight hurt anything?

For the record, I am used to 4000-series, have restorated 7 4002-4004 and 2 4000 with lubrication problems.

Replacement Belts for Beogram 6000

Could anyone advise where I could get a new set of belts for a Beogram 6000.

The first thing to do is to unplug the Beogram from mains. If there are missing covers inside, live parts will be visible. Also, if there is power, you might accidentally start the deck and drive the stylus into something...

The construction of these Beograms is really clever - the wooden frame of the plinth keeps the entire top together. There's not a single screw to remove, you just grab the frame by its rear ends and slide it forward as far as it comes, for about one centimeter.

I just got a great mint condition Beosystem 6500 from eBay, looking and sounding all great, except for one thing: Playing records with Beogram 6500, the high frequencies are notably distorted / overdriven (sorry, I don't know the right English expression to describe it).
I am a bloody beginner with this, so I hope for some input.

I'm worried, that the stylus is worn - could this be the reason? I got the System shipped, but it was wrapped very very very well, and the MMC2 came in an extra box. Was described as fully working, with no flaws.

Or could it be anything else than the stylus? I tried adjusting the tip pressure, but it does not make a real difference, lowest pressure seems to result in slightly more distortion somehow. Also, the slider to adjust the pressure was set beyond the highest value when I got the Beosystem, but that might have happened when the seller disconnected the system from the tone arm. Of course I already wrote him, let's see if he knows more.

I also hope that I can get some advice here what this could be or by what it could be caused. I hope it's just a simple solution.
Thanks a lot!

I've been searching the internet for quite some while now for my issues. I have found my issue twice, both times unanswered. So perhaps its an easy solution, or an impossible one.

I recently purchased a beogram 1700 in not too great condition, I more or less rescued it from the bin. But all the mechanisms seem too work.

However,

When the tonearm is in its resting position it almost hits the aluminium. When I purchased it the problem was it had hit the deck. I have adapted this by raising the tiny support screw at the base of the tonearm. (this littlescrew rests on the 'thing' that is being raised or lowered). My tonearm now sits horizontally at the base, but when I press play the tonearm turns to the record, while being raised and now is about 1 cm above the record. This seems to high for me, especially compared to the beogram 1600 i have.

Comparted to my beogram 1600 the arm is raised when approaching the platter (and the more you move the arm manually to the center the more it is raised). I found somewhere on the net that it is normal for a 1700 tonearm to do this. But how high should the arm be in rest position, and how high before beeing slightly dropped on the record?

The second issue is that the after playing the arm swings back but does not stop at a 90 degree angle with the deck. It moves too far. In some other manuals i found that the stop position could be adusted, however i dont know where to adjust such a thing on my deck. (i have located the two asymetric screws for adjusting the drop position for 45's and 33's, and the landing is not an issue, so this is not an option?: http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/39785.aspx). I have a manual which does not mention such a thing.

What i have done is lubricating the pot which lowers and raises the arm. I think thats not the problem as the arm does not skate across the record or anything. What seems to be the problem is that the arm is dropped to much when moving away from the record. I have search the www and so far did not find anything that could help.

Any tips, or expereriences with the height of the tonearm are really appreciated.

I want to get this thing perfectly running, cause my beogram 1600 does not play my 33rpm singles, or 45 rpm 17inch (hardcorepunk and dance). It does play my stones records fine though.

Thanks in advance!

Beogram 8000 Beomaster 6500?

A friend has a Bg8000 and wonders if his Beomaster 6500 can control it through the Phono-DIN.

I got a bit too carried away with the isopropyl alcohol and started rubbing some parts down with it... all went well until I started rubbing the platter with it. I was in low light so I didn't notice till I had rubbed all over the entire platter, but the metal finish was completely ruined by the alcohol and the platter is unsightly now... I was wondering what model Beogram platters would be compatible with the TX (such as TX2 maybe?) and if anyone on here either knew where I could order a replacement or had one for sale.

Also, another platter-related question that I have is: are the rubber inlays supposed to actually come higher than the metal on the platter? Mine are totally level with the metal and my better judgement tells me that they are completely useless in this state.

The originals, as we all know, were made from acrylic plastic, which crack around the mounting screws, and scratch easily.

In the course of investigating the worthwhileness of this project, I concluded that any replacements must address those issues beyond any doubt, and basically last for ever.

So, I have come up with initial numbers for a grey smoke-coloured (almost identical to the later 4004 color), POLYCARBONATE (not acrylic / perspex), 5mm (as opposed to the original 4mm).

Polycarbonate is extremely strong, light, non-scratchable, and about 60% more expensive than acrylic, and is used here in Israel instead of glass in shop windows, bus-stops, etc to minimize casualties from suicide terrorists blowing up civilians.

Custom (and expensive - Eu2100) tooling is required to identically duplicate the original structure, and owner workmanship requires only removal of the original alumininum strip, cleaning off its residual glue, applying new contact adhesive, screwing in the hinges, and replacing the aluminum strip.

I do not have any pictures of a prototype, as that would require the tooling investment. It would be an identical duplicate copy of the original, except for the 5mm thickness, which has no functional or aesthetic influence.

I have to make a minimum order of 100 units, and the price will be Eu72+ about Eu18 shipping from Israel to Europe or the USA. If I can get enough interest for 1000 units, the price drops to Eu54.

This is a "community" price, without any concerns of private profit here, and priced well below that which ordinary generic acrylic turntable dustcovers sell for on ebay.

Shipping will be 3-4 weeks from placing the order.

Obviously, I cannot subsidize such a large amount, and I would like to see if there is sufficient interest here to make a go/no-go decision for 100 units.

Comments are welcome

I have a Beogram 3300, the wedge shaped turntable, connected to a Beosound 9000. There was always enough level difference it was annoying, plus having to use an old integrated amp for its phono preamp. Anyway, I got one of these:

http://www.phonopreamps.com/TC-770LCpp.html

This unit has a DIN connector on the back, so that you don't have to use an adaptor to go to RCA and ground wire. It also has a variable gain, I was easily able to up the gain on the table so it matched the Beosound CD and radio with just a touch of gain.

So far I'm very happy with the sound, and the fact the levels are matched. I can recommend this as a good phono preamp for B&O tables. When I contacted the dealer, he directed me towards this when he heard I had a Beogram, for the reasons mentioned, DIN connector and the low gain of the B&O cartridges.

Good product, seems solidly made, and solves a number of problems.

4002 Beogram issue with yellow solenoid

Hello I have an issue with a 4002 that I recieved about 5 years ago and it was my main turntable for about 3 years ago. Well I wanted to clean and lube it up a bit as it was darting to squeel as the tone ARM returned to home. Well I searched on here and the net and I followed someone instructions and used some sewing machine oil as directed on the points he had shown in his directions. Well one of the points of lubrication was the yellow solenoid at the point nearest the back of the machine where the plunged travels into this yellow cylinder. I believe I was using it a while but I had started smelling this unique smell of like a burning bandaid or electrical. All the sudden this yellow thing started smoking and the sound shutoff but could hear the needle still creating sound internally inside the cart . However not through the amp and speakers. If someone can give me detailed instructions of how to remove this yellow pc I could get back to enjoying my vinyl collection on my favorite deck. Thanks. Oh I guess I should mention that I tried hooking this 4002 back up today after 2 years of being out of my system and it actually worked for about 40 seconds until this selenoid heated up and sound was gone again but again the smell. Ok hope some

BeoGram 4002 Skipping near end of album

My Beogram 4002 does not seem to advance with the record as it nears the end of the album.
I recently became the owner of a Beogram 1500 turntable (the later version).

Really pleased with it, unfortunately I'm less pleased about the fact the speed selector doesn't seem to be working correctly.

It only plays at 33RPM I've managed to accidentally get it playing at double speed after stopping and starting it a few times but that is as close I got to 45RPM and it was way too fast! In the main I listen to albums but I do have quite a few 12"s I'd like to be able to listen.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or of not can anyone recommend a repair place in the UK?

I've found a source here for new, unopened MMC4/5 cartridges. They are not a steal at 180€ for the '5 and 290€ for the '4 .

Of course, the sellers think that being new, they must be in perfect condition!

I'm trying to negociate with the "Axel argument" (fair enough, isn't it), but nothing so far.

Have anyone had problem with tone arm positioning too low when it´s on top position, where it should be even with indicator arm? I cant find any adjustment for that ( adjustment screw B doesn´t help). Can the holder in what the whole arm is hanging wear out? I mean it has plastic hole against metal cone?

I know that with the earlier model 4002 the motor was originally AC and the platter was heavier like the 4000 and in 1 piece. Also the main board was very different from later models. It would be logical to assume the changes made were to improve the 4002 turntable but at the same time most people know the changes from the 4000 to 4002 were to cut costs not to improve on the BG 4000, which is considered the superior table from what I understand. Like to hear people's thoughts on this.
