Well, sort of the kind of question that maybe belongs in this thread... I haven't yet upgraded to Leopard, but I want to maybe for the sole purpose of using screen sharing to help my parents sometimes when they need help with their Mac (much better than struggling over the phone and trying to explain how to do things).

I don't want to upgrade my main computer (a G5), my wife has a new iMac (intel) [and she hasn't expressed a desire to upgrade, but I am sure that her computer would run fine], BUT...

My question is this: i would like to first upgrade my secondary mac (a Powerbook G4 12" 1.33Ghz with 1.25GB RAM)... would Leopard run well [enough] or would I expect slowness?

one thing i hate about leopard is the search / spotlight and the way it displays results
eg ; do a search for items larger than say 100 megs , the results aren't viewable by size !!
basically you can search for things but are very limited as to what criteria you can sort them by

not impressed at all by this tbh

I prefer the new Spotlight menu, IMO it's a massive improvement. However, I agree that searching from within Finder has taken a step backwards. I never use Spotlight in Finder though so that's not an issue for me. I see how it could irritate some though...

I also sometimes have iChat crash completely, but the windows etc.. stay open and look normal (even the text cursor keeps flashing) but I can't type or receive/send any messages, or scroll around.

It's also crashed a few times when sending files...

I've had a few bugs.

• Kernel Panics (complete system crash) when clicking the AirPort menu (haven't had this since the 10.5.1 update)
• Dragging icons from Stacks often seems to 'lag' and you end up with the icon floating a few CMs away from the mouse.
• The Finder's sidebar often seems to 'lock up', so nothing changes (disconnected external HDDs still appear etc...), but it can still be accessed.
• Spotlight menu often disappears up behind the Menu Bar, or right off the side of the screen so you can only see a tiny bit.
• iChat glitches (hang ups, complete crashes, keyboard unresponsiveness etc...)
• Keyboard stops working completely, no caps lock light, no num pad light, nothing, almost as though it's been disconnected (this is on a MacBook Pro). Only happened for the first time today, but a friend of mine has had the same problem quite a lot with a brand new MBP.

There have been other issues, but overall it's not as bad as lists of bugs make it out to be. In fact it's very very good. Much faster than Tiger (by miles), and the new features are great! I'm not really finding the bugs to be any major issue (there are workarounds for most of them).

Not crashed/frozen at all in 3 weeks of owning it. There are a couple of things I've noticed that Apple need to fix but so far no problems at all.

OSX 10.5.1 recommended here too. Some apps like GIMP, Java and GrowlMail are still to be updated - otherwise, no issues.

I have it too. Works well with BM-Link the way I use it - with an iPod Touch as remote.

Doesn't like FileVault and Time machine working together. I had a number of crashes and freezes so I turned File Vault off and it seems fine again. I plan to actually do a clean install once I get my new 1 TB external HDD.

The 10.5.1 has been released.

I do not find it buggy at all. But maybe 3rd party apps are incompatible.

Problems I face are:

- Bug when connecting to Airport Extreme disks.

- BM-Link is not yet compatible with Leopard.

If you're not using any of those, I warmly recommend it.
